초록

본고에서는 明谷 崔錫鼎(1646∼1715)이 40대 이후 邵城, 明谷, 草坪에 우거하던 시기에 창작했던 한시 작품을 ‘隱居에 대한 염원과 자아성찰’, ‘寓居地의 일상과 일탈의 흥취’ 두 부류로 나누어 시세계와 그 양상에 대해 살펴보고, 그가 견지했던 詩論과의 상관관계를 규명하였다. 작가가 지니는 詩論과 실제 창작된 詩作이 완전히 부합하는 경우는 드물지만, 본고에서 살펴본 우거시기 최석정의 詩作은 그가 모범으로 삼고 지향했던 詩論과 부합하는 면이 많았다.
최석정은 漢詩를 창작할 때에 新巧를 지향하기보다는 氣를 위주로 平實典厚한 詩作을 추구하였으며, 적절한 辭와 氣의 구사를 강조하였다. 平實의 의미는 ‘마음이 화평하고 든든하다.(平穩踏實)’ 혹은 ‘문장이 질박하고 화려하지 않다.(文詞樸實無華)’이다. 詩文의 비평과 관련해서는 전자보다는 후자의 의미에 가깝다. 말뜻은 간단명료해 보이지만, 平實의 개념은 더 많은 의미를 내포하고 있다. 먼저 ‘平’과 반대되는 용어는 ‘奇’이며, 實에 반대되는 용어는 ‘虛’이다. 詩作에서 平實을 지향했다는 말은 바꾸어 말하면 新奇하고 실제가 없는 虛無한 작품을 지양했다는 뜻이다.
최석정이 우거시기에 창작한 두 부류의 詩作은 聲律과 辭致와 같은 외면적인 형식에 치중하기보다는 자신의 내면과 감정 및 우거지의 일상에서 마주하는 景物을 꾸밈없이 진솔하게 담아내었으며, 난삽한 기교와 꾸밈은 전혀 찾아볼 수 없었다. 詩語에서도 險僻하거나 浮虛함은 철저히 배제하고 평범하지만 실제적인 詩語로 情景을 묘사하고 표현하였다. 이러한 측면은 최석정이 추구했던 詩論과 일치하는 부분이다. 그에 더하여 최석정이 관직 생활을 이어가며 항상 염원했던 은거가 더 이상 염원이 아니라 현실로 다가오면서 탈속적이고 소탈한 분위기가 자연스레 詩作에 융화되어 그의 시세계에 있어 중요한 축을 형성한 것으로 보인다.
『明谷集』에 실린 글과 당대 문인들의 평가를 볼 때, 최석정은 자기만의 뚜렷한 詩論을 견지하고 있었으며, 과거와 당대의 詩壇의 폐해에 대한 비판과 성찰을 통해 새로운 지향점을 적극적으로 모색하였다. 이러한 사실로 볼 때 정치가와 학자로서의 면모뿐 아니라, 詩人으로서 최석정에 대한 재평가가 이루어져야 할 것으로 보인다.

영어초록

In this article, the work he created while reside temporarily in Incheon(仁川), Jincheon(鎭川) and Seoul Hwanghwabang(皇華坊) after the age of 40 was considered in two aspects: ‘Hope and Self-reflection on the Seclusion’ and ‘Happiness of the Daily Life and Deviation of the reside temporarily region’. And based on this, I tried to investigate the correlation between the poetry view he pursued and the poetry world. It is rare for any author to completely match the poetry view and the actual work created. But the Chinese Poems of the Choi, seogjeong(崔錫鼎), there were many works that he set as an example and aimed at poetry.
Rather than seeking novelty in the creation of poetry, he pursued PyeongSil Cenhwu(平實典厚), focusing on Ki(氣), and also emphasized the proper Sa(辭) and Ki(氣) syntax. The dictionary meaning of PyeongSil(平實) means 'peaceful and reliable' or 'sentence is not formal and colorful.' Regarding the criticism of poetry, it is closer to the latter meaning than to the former. Though the meaning seems simple and clear, the concept of the term ‘PyeongSil(平實)’ implies more meaning. First, the opposite term for ‘Pyeong(平)’ is ‘Gi(奇)’ and the opposite term for ‘Ho(虛)’ is ‘Ho(虛)’. The poem's pursuit of PyeongSil(平實) means, in other words, a novel, bizarre, and unrealistic piece of work. The two types of work that we looked at earlier did not focus on the outward form as shown in phonetic sound and technique. Rather he has candidly and candidly captured his inner self, his emotions and the scenery he faces in daily life, and there is no hard technique or decoration at all. In language of a poem, scene and not real are completely excluded, but they describe and express scene in plain but practical words. This aspect is consistent with the Orientation Point in the poem pursued by Choi, seogjeong(崔錫鼎). In addition, Choi, seogjeong(崔錫鼎) wish for a life of seclusion, which he had always hoped for during his career in government service, came to reality, and the mood of deserter and desolate naturally merged into the works he created during his brief stay. Based on this, the Poetry World of Choi, seogjeong(崔錫鼎) appears to have formed an important axis. Looking at the writings in myeonggogjip(明谷集) and the assessments of literary person at the time, he was building his own distinct time-world. In addition, criticism and reflection of the harmful effects of the past and the poetical circles were actively sought for new directions. Looking at these facts, it seems that reevaluation of Choi, seogjeong(崔錫鼎) must be counducted not only as a aspect as a politician and scholar, but also as a poet.
