우주의 시학과 기독교적 인류애; 양명문의 후기 시세계 연구 (Cosmic Poetics and Christian Philanthropy: a Study on Yang Myeong-mun’s Later Poetry)

초록

양명문의 후기시에 대한 연구가 전무한 상황에서 본고는 양명문의 시집 『묵시록』과 『지구촌』 및 발굴된 시론과 미발표 수상집, 유고시 등을 통해 70년대 이후그의 창작논리와 후기 시세계를 탐사해보았다.
그간에 양명문의 시론조차 온전히 발굴되지 않아 그의 창작논리가 규명되지 못하고 있었지만, 새로이 발굴된 시론에서 확인되는 바 ,그가 한국시단의 유형화된창작을 극복하기 위해 ‘극시’의 이론화에 몰두하고 창작의 필요성을 역설했던 것은 매우 주목할 만한 주장이라 판단된다. 또한 양명문이 동서양의 우주론과 시의음악성, 상징적 언어를 시적 탐구의 대상으로 삼았음도 주목을 요한다. 그는 21세기를 ‘우주시대’로 보고 자연과 우주의 생성원리를 담아낼 수 있는 서정시의 가능성을 실험했으며 이를 기독교적 신앙세계와 연결시킴으로써 그만의 독특한 시세계를 주조해낸다.
양명문의 우주시학은 그가 의식적으로 탐구했던 우주론, 한국의 역사와 전통, 기독적 사유가 어우러진 시적 인식의 소산이다. 그의 시는 ‘사랑의 원리’ 속에 서로가 연결되어 있는 기독교적 인류애에 기반해 분열과 대립의 경계들을 극복하고자 했다는 점에서, ‘민족’이나 ‘국가’가 중심축으로 작용하던 당대의 민중시같은흐름과는 개성을 달리한다. 비록 양명문이 당대 시단의 주류에서 비껴나 있다 할지라도, 그의 후기시에 담겨 있는 독특한 실험성과 시적 비젼을 주목하는 것은, 한국현대시의 깊이와 다양성을 재고할 기회를 마련해줄 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

Since practically no studies have been done on Yang Myeong-mun’s later poetry, this thesis explores the logic of the poet’s poetic creation in the 1970s and later as well as his later poetry through his poetic collections of Apocalypse and Global Village, his newly discovered essays on poetic theory, an unpublished collection of essays, and his posthumous poems.
Previously, with his essays on poetic theory not wholly discovered, the logic of his poetic creation wasn’t clarified. As is verified in his newly discovered essays on poetic theory, it is highly remarkable that the poet applied himself to theorizing ‘dramatic poetry’ in a bid to overcome typified creation among Korean poets and asserted the need for poetic creation.
It should also be noted that Yang Myeong-mun took as the objects of his poetic exploration the cosmological theories of East and West and the symbolic language that can carry the principles of nature. Through the originary language like a child’s frist word, the poet experimented with the possibility of lyrical poetry that assimilates all human expressions including songs and gestures, and by linking it with the world of Christian faith, he forged his unique world of poetry.
Yang Myeong-mun’s cosmic poetics is a product of a poetic perception that mixes the cosmologies that he consciously inquired into, the history and tradition of Korea, and Christian thinking. His poetry is distinguished from his contemporary trend instanced in people’s poetry in which ‘nation’ or ‘state’ served as the central axis, in that based on the Christian philanthropy which connects one another in ‘the principle of love’, it aimed to transcend the borderlines of division and opposition. Even though Yang Myeong-mun found himself outside the mainstream, focusing on the distinctive experimentality and poetic vision in his world of poetry will create an opportunity to reconsider the depth and diversity of modern Korean poetry.
