僞滿洲國 조선계 작가 안수길과 ‘민족협화’ (Korean Writer An Soo-gil and the Ethnic Harmony in Manchukuo)

초록

본고는 당시 안수길이 위만주국 조선계의 대표적 작가로 인정받고 있었고 스스로도 본인의 위치를 그렇게 자리 매김 하려고 했던 점에 착안하여 그의 문학을 위만주국 조선계 문학 즉 위만주국의 ‘소수민족’ 문학의 위치에서 살펴보았다. 안수길의 만주시기 문학을 위만주국 ‘소수민족’ 문학의 위치에서 바라본다는 것은 바로 ‘민족협화’를 핵심 키워드로 그의 문학을 바라본다는 것을 의미한다. 즉 ‘민족협화’와 그의 만주시기 문학이 지향했던 북향정신이 어떤 내적 연계를 맺고 있는지, 그가 어떻게 ‘민족협화’를 통해 그토록 끈질기게 탐구했던 민족공동체 생존의 내적 근거를 찾아냈는지를 구명하였다.
위만주국은 비록 ‘민족협화’를 건국이념으로 내세웠지만, 위만주국의 민족관계는 이와는 무관하게 여전히 모순과 갈등으로 충만되었으며 이러한 모순과 충돌, 갈등은 특히 토지의 소유권과 경작권을 둘러싼 위만주국 농촌사회에서 더욱 집중적으로 드러났다. 위만주국 농촌사회에서 일본의 개척이민정책에 의해 조선인 농민은 중국인 농민과 마찬가지로 피해자였지만 때로는 중국인 농민들에게 가해자가 되기도 하는 매우 애매하고 곤혹스러운 처지에 처해있었다. 이러한 민족관계에 대해 안수길은 당시 민감하게 알아차리고 있었으며 때로는 매우 조심스럽게 행동하였다. 그러나 안수길의 만주시기 소설에는 이러한 위만주국 농촌사회의 토지를 둘러싼 복잡하고 미묘한 민족관계가 거의 드러나지 않고 있으며 ‘토지 수용령’에 의한 각 민족 간의 모순과 충돌도 드러나지 않는다. 안수길은 실제로 위만주국 사회에서 가장 미묘하고 복잡한 갈등 양상을 이루고 있는 토지를 둘러싼 농촌사회의 민족관계를 다루면서 그것을 현실과는 다른 자리에서 조선인과 중국인의 이상적인 화합의 장으로, 그리고 조선인과 일본인의 껄끄럽고 불편한 모순의 장으로 그려내었다.
안수길은 ‘민족협화’를 위만주국에서 조선인이 정착하고 생존을 도모할 수 있는 내적 논리 내지 길, 방법으로 보았으며 북향 이상을 실현할 수 있는 길 혹은 방법으로 보았다. 안수길은 상호주의적 시각으로 만주의 원래의 주인인 만주인의 입장과 처지를 이해하고 또한 조선인들이 어쩔 수 없이 만주에 이주하여 살아가지 않으면 안 되는 처지에 대해 그들의 이해를 구하고 서로 협력하면서 생존을 도모하고 만주에 정착하는 것이 만주에 이주한 조선인들의 생존의 길이라고 보았다.
‘만주국’이 붕괴되었을 때, ‘만주국’이 표방했던 복합민족국가의 파탄과 함께 ‘만주국’ 여러 민족 인민들이 겪었던 충돌과 수난은 안수길 식 ‘민족협화’의 한계를 여실히 보여주었다. 일제가 위만주국에서 일본 민족 우위를 포기하지 않는 한, 진정한 민족평등이 이루어지지 않는 한, 진정한 ‘민족협화’란 이루어질 수 없기 때문이다. 또한 일제의 만주 침략에 의한 ‘만주국’의 건국은 그 시작부터가 여러 민족 간의 반목과 불화의 시작이었기 때문이다. 안수길 식 ‘민족협화’는 ‘만주국’의 붕괴와 함께 파탄을 맞았고, 그의 북향정신 내지 이상은 결국 좌절되고 말았다.

영어초록

Standing on the point that An Soo-gil was considered to be the representative writer and he also put himself on that position, this paper discussed his literature from the perspective of Korean literary that could be seen to be the minority literature in Manchukuo. Putting An Soo-gil's literature during Manchuria period on the level of the minority literature in Manchukuo means that this paper studied his literary works around the keyword “Ethnic Harmony”. Specifically speaking, this paper tried to find the internal connection between the “Ethnic Harmony” and the north hometown complex reflected in his literary works during Manchuria period and tried to find internal base of national community which was continuously expected to be built by the “Ethnic Harmony”.
Although Manchukuo was built with “Ethnic Harmony”, the ethnic relations in Manchukuo was still full of contradictions and conflicts. These contradictions and conflicts were more intensively revealed from rural community which surrounded the land-ownership and the cultivation right. Under the Japanese pioneer immigration policy, the Korean peasants could be the same victims with Chinese peasants, but sometimes could be the attacker to Chinese peasants, which was very confused. An Soo-gil was sensitively aware of this kind of ethnic relations and sometimes acted very carefully. However, his novels during Manchuria period did not show the complicated and subtle ethnic relations based on the land of rural area or all the national contradictions and conflicts based on the land expropriation order. In fact, An Soo-gil saw the ethnic relations around the land in rural community as the most complicated and subtlest relations in Manchuria society but put it on a different position from reality, which depicted the ideal harmony between Korean and Chinese and the awkward contradictions between Korean and Japanese.
An Soo-gil considered “Ethnic Harmony” as a rational way for Koreans to settle and live in Manchukuo and they way for them to realize the north hometown ideal. With the mutual vision, An Soo-gil tried not only understood the position of the native Manchuria, but also helped these natives to understand the Koreans who had to immigrate to Manchuria to maintain their life. He considered the settlement under this king of mutual understanding and with mutual help to be the way for Korean immigrants to exist.
When Manchukuo collapsed, its hardship of complex national state and the conflicts and sufferings of all the ethnics in Manchukuo really showed the limits of An Soo-gil's “Ethnic Harmony”. Japanese empire didn't give up their supreme position, the real ethnic equality and the real “Ethnic Harmony” could not be realized, which became the reasons. In addition, Manchukuo was built by the Japanese empire's invasion in Manchuria where the hostility and disharmony appeared at the very beginning. An Soo-gil's “Ethnic Harmony” was frustrated with Manchukuo's collapse, but it didn't mean that his north hometown complex even his ideal was completely frustrated. Nowadays 2 million Chinese Korean who are living under the minority policy of the Communist Party in China has showed the realization of the north hometown ideal to people.
