李圭景의 名物度數之學과 관련된 언어와 문자 자료에 대하여 (About Language and Character Data related to Lee Gyugyeong’s Myungmuldosujihak(名物度數之學))

초록

이 글은 『五洲衍文長箋散稿』를 대상으로 이규경의 名物度數之學과 관련된 언어와 문자 자료에 대하여 논의하였다. 이 글의 연구 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째로 이 글은 이규경이 생각한 名物度數之學의 방법이 名物이 가지는 특징을 변별하여 名物이 가지는 度數를 분석하는 것임을 규명하였다.
둘째로 이 글은 관련된 名物이 망라적으로 제시된 辨證說과 관련된 名物의 異名을 주석으로 제시한 辨證說로 나누어 『오주연문장전산고』에 수록된 언어와 문자 자료를 개관하였다. 한자를 논의한 변증설 4개, 한어에 대한 풀이를 제시한 변증설 6개, 한어의 우리말 대역어를 차자 표기로 제시한 변증설 7개, 한어의 우리말 대역어를 한글 표기로 제시한 변증설 4개, 한어의 우리말 대역어를 언해 자료에서 찾아 한글 표기로 제시한 변증설 3개, 한어의 우리말 대역어를 언해 자료에서 찾아 차자 표기로 제시한 변증설 3개, 우리말을 소개한 변증설 2개, 숫자 은어를 제시한 변증설 1개, 일본어의 우리말 대역어를 제시한 변증설 1개, 하나의 어휘에 대하여 풀이를 제시한 변증설 2개 등의 목록을 새로이 제시하였다. 한편, 언어와 문자 관련 주석 자료를 제시한 변증설은 매우 많으며, 하나의 사례로 「山野荒政辨證說」이 국어에 관한 차자 표기를 많이 제시하고 있음을 언급하였다.
셋째로 이 글은 이규경이 생각한 名物度數之學의 방법과 관련한 언어와 문자 자료를 분석하여 국어의 중요한 특징을 규명하였다.
名物을 수집 절차하는 절차와 관련하여 바람과 생활에 필요한 집기의 명칭에 대한 어형을 새로이 확인할 수 있었으며, 한국 고유한자에 대한 심도있는 이해를 하게 되었다.
名物을 변별하는 절차와 관련하여 亞鉛과 含錫이 동일한 명칭임을 확인하였으며, 물건을 ‘암’과 ‘수’로 구분하는 방법이 한어뿐만 아니라 우리 국어에도 존재하는 사실을 확인하였으며, 행정 구역 단위를 지칭하는 社와 坊의 명확한 개념을 도출하였으며, 19세기 시장 상인들이 사용했던 숫자 은어를 새로이 확인하게 되었다.
경험적 지식의 일반화와 관련하여 이규경이 성취한 귀납적 일반화의 정도를 검토하였으며, 지명의 보수적인 특성을 이해하였으며, 이규경이 신라어 骨의 의미를 ‘뼈’ 또는 ‘뼈대’로 파악했음을 확인하였다.

영어초록

In this paper, we discussed language and character data related to Lee Gyugyeong(李圭景)’s Myungmuldosujihak(Economic geology related to agriculture, commerce and industry and research on natural scientific knowledge) targeting Ojuyeonmunjangjeonsango (『五洲衍文長箋散稿』). The research findings of this paper are as follows.
First, this paper identified that the method of Myungmuldosujihak devised by Lee Gyugyeong discriminates the features of things to analyze the degree of things.
Second, this paper reviewed language and character data contained in Ojuyeonmunjangjeonsango by dividing them into the dialectic theory in which related things are comprehensively presented and the dialectic theory that presented nicknames of related things as explanatory notes. A new list was presented such as 4 dialectic theories that discussed Chinese characters, 6 dialectic theories that presented explanation on Chinese language, 7 dialectic theories that presented Korean translation of Chinese language with borrowed letters, 4 dialectic theories that presented Korean translation of Chinese language with Hangul notation, 3 dialectic theories that found Korean translation of Chinese language in Korean annotation materials and presented them as Hangul notation, 3 dialectic theories that found Korean translation of Chinese language in Korean annotation materials and presented them as borrowed letters, 2 dialectic theories that introduced Korean, 1 dialectic theory that presented number slangs, 1 dialectic theory that presented Korean translation of Japanese, 2 dialectic theories that presented explanation for one word etc. On the other hand, it was mentioned that there were so many dialectic theories that presented language and character related annotation data and as one case, Sanyahwangjeong Dialectic Theory presented many borrowed letters on Korean.
Third, this paper identified the important features of Korean by analyzing language and character data related to the method of Myungmuldosujihak devised by Lee Gyugyeong.
With respect to the procedures collecting things, word forms for household goods required for fashion and life could be newly identified and Korean unique Chinese characters could be deeply understood.
With respect to the procedures discriminating things, it was found that zinc and tin are the same name and was also found that the way to divide things into ‘female’ and ‘male’ exists in Korean as well as Chinese language and the clear concept of Sa and Bang referring to the administrative district unit was derived and number slangs used by 19th century market merchants were newly identified.
With respect to generalization of empirical knowledge, the degree of inductive generalization achieved by Lee Gyugyeong was reviewed and the conservative characteristics of nomination were understood and it was found that Lee Gyugyeong identified the meaning of Sillan language Gol as ‘bone’ or ‘bony frame.’
