『화엄경』 「사제품」에 나타난 사성제의 의미에 대한 분석 (Analysis on meaning of ‘Saseongje(catvāri-āryasatyāni)’ shown in ‘Avatamsaka-sūtra’ and catvāri-āryasatyāni -varga)

초록

본 연구에서는 60권본과 80권본의 『화엄경』 「사성제품」을 텍스트로 정하고, 아울러 「사제품」에 대한 학설은 중국의 대표적인 화엄가인 지엄․현수․징관․이통현의 주석서를 참고로 활용하여 사성제의 의미에 대해 분석해보았다. 여기서 주목한 것은 반복되는 인생의 고통인 괴로움의 진리인 고성제의 의미에 대한 동이(同異)분석과 끊임없는 욕망 추구인 어리석은 모습의 근거를 보여주는 진리인 집성제와 또한 집착의 소멸로 인한 해탈의 결과인 멸성제와 이상세계에 도달하기 위해서는 어떤 방법으로 수행해야 하는가 하는 도성제이다. 그리고 「사제품」의 핵심내용인 고제․집제․멸제․도제에 담긴 의미는 도표로 정리하였다. 또한 『화엄경』 「사성제품」에 대한 내용분석을 통하여 『화엄경』 「사성제품」의 중심대의(大意)는 중생이 좋아하는 바(樂欲)가 제각각이기 때문에 교법도 달리하고 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 왜냐하면 중생은 사성제의 실천을 통하여 신업(身業)ㆍ구업(口業)ㆍ의업(意業)을 조화하고 다스리며[控御] 모든 악행을 제복하고 제멸(除滅)하게 되기 때문이다.
본 연구에서 살펴본 『화엄경』 「사성제품」에 대한 내용분석의 의미들은 결국 제불보살이 설하는 온갖 생성과 소멸의 상의상관성의 법칙인 연기(緣起)의 의미와 서로 다르지 않는 것을 보여주고 있는 것이다. 즉, 사바세계를 비롯한 진공세계에서 말하는 고․집․멸․도에 담긴 의미들은 결국 인본주의에 입각한 불성(佛性)을 지닌 인간의 존엄성을 강조한 우리의 인생행로 그 자체를 나타내고 있는 것이다. 곧 이러한 모습들을 사바세계외의 열 세계뿐만 아니라, 허공․진시방법계(盡十方法界)의 모든 세계에 널린 사성제의 명칭을 열거하여 부처님의 설법이 오묘불측임을 보이고 있는 것이다.
문수보살이 설주가 되어 무수한 세계와 무수한 명칭, 무수한 종류들로 무수하게 설한 사성제 각 항목에는 무수한 연기법(緣起法)의 진실한 의미들이 함축되어 있다는 것을 우리에게 보여주고 있다. 때문에 오늘을 사는 우리는 자신의 현실생활에서 사성제를 실천 수행함으로써 점차 마음이 안락하고 풍부하게 될 수 있을 것이며, 더 나아가 이 사바세계에서 괴로움을 견딜 수 있는 원동력으로써 수승하고 충분한 가르침이라고 생각된다.

영어초록

Enlighten one's one-citta through the consilience of Manbeop(萬法); This is the most important message implied in ‘Avatamsaka-sūtra’. It means ‘to perceive the reason of everything(Manmul) on the outside, thus enlighten one's true nature on the inside’. Manbeop here refers to universal Manyu, which is phenomenon of everything(salva). by seeing through every phenomenon of universe and their reason, Manbeop's aim is to find unbiased and clear character, buddhatva, that is stored deep inside one's mind. application of Manbeop could be a way to enlighten one-citta, or one can enlighten one-citta to understand Manbeop. This is called the 'final transcension'. This idea may share it's nature to understanding that our life is made of dukha(苦), finding out it's origin, and cure it so that one may never fall into it again. This is ‘Saseongje(catvāri-āryasatyāni)'s main idea. Dukha and ‘gathering'(集) in Saseongje means the real world, wheras ‘dissapearance'(滅) and ‘way'(道) means Nirvana, which means the ideal world. Therefore, we must perceive the world and know its cause. Then we must set the path and have a concrete plan for practicing it in real life. In ‘Saseongje', both the path and the plan is explaned in ‘the holy truth of the cessation of suffering', and ‘the holy truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering'. The former indicates the ideal state of mind that is free from suffering, Nirvāna, in different term, And the latter present ‘āryāāga-mārga' which is the guideline of how to practice the cessation of suffering in real life. This is how ‘Saseongje' is understood by us. Thus, This study is focused on ‘Saseongjepum(catvāri-āryasatyāni- varga)'. There are The holy truth of suffering, Which shows the true natire of dukha, and The holy truth of the cause or source of suffering, which explains the reason why we blindly pursuit pleasures. There are also The holy truth of the cessation of suffering, which is the result of reaching Nirvāna via abandoning the ‘gathering', and for the last The holy truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering, which answeres to the question ‘What method of study shall be used in order to reach the ideal world?'. Said four teachings are categorized in order to analyze 'Saseongjepum' from Avatamsaka-sūtra, and prove it's foremost idea is that different teaching-dharma can be applied according to what people persue. In other words, Prove the immeasurable profundity of Buddhist sermon by listing every terms in ‘saseongje' from 'be exhausted-daśadik -dharma-dhātu(盡十方法界)'. The composition of 60th book ‘Avatamsaka-sūtra' has a total of 7 āyatana and 9 gatherings. This essay will have a colse loook on ‘Sajepum(catvāri-āryasatyāni -varga)', the fourth varga among 34, and also belongs to the second sermon in the hall of universal light congregations(普光法堂會). The 80th book, “Avatamsaka-sūtra”, also consists of 7 āyatana and 9 gatherings. “Saseongjepum(catvāri-āryasatyāni -varga)” is the eighth varga among 38, and also belongs to the second sermon in the hall of universal light congregations(普光法堂會). This study uses both ‘Sajepum' and ‘Saseongjepum' from 60th and 80th book as the central text, and will use “Avatamsaka-sūtra(華嚴經搜玄記)” by Ji-um, “New Avatamsaka- sūtra argument(新華嚴經論)” by Lee Tong-hyun, and “Avatamsaka-sūtra-shū(大方廣佛華嚴經疏)” by Chungryangjinkwan. Thus, this study will be able to show how ‘Saseongje(catvāri- āryasatyāni)', the foremost important idea of bhuddism shown in Bhudda's first sermon at Mgadāva, is blended into “Avatamsaka-sūtra”.
