고죽 崔慶昌의 絶句에 나타난 색채이미지 연구 (A Study on the Color Image in a Chinese Quatrain of Gojook, Choi, Gyung Chang)

초록

이 글은 16세기 조선의 시풍에 변화를 가져온 고죽 崔慶昌의 絶句에 나타난 색채이미지를 분석하여 고죽의 내면과 시세계를 살피고자 한 것이다. 고죽은 시의 본질이 인간의 감성을 진솔하게 표현하는 것이라 보고 옥봉 백광훈, 손곡 이달과 함께 唐詩를 추구하였다. 고죽의 시는 한 폭의 그림을 보는 듯 한 수준 높은 회화성에 다양한 색채이미지가 어우러져 唐詩의 특징이 잘 드러난다.
색채이미지는 시의 시각적 이미지를 다양하고 또렷하게 나타내어 시의 감동을 倍加시키는 역할을 하며 인간의 심리 및 경험과 연관되어 있어, 색채이미지의 분석은 시인의 내면과 시세계를 살필 수 있는 매우 중요한 작업이라고 할 수 있다. 이 글에서는 고죽 시에 나타난 색채이미지의 분석을 위해 먼저 고죽의 색채의식에 영향을 준 것으로 유추되는 오방색에 대해서 살펴보았다. 오래전부터 전통적으로 사용되어 온 오방색은 음양오행사상을 바탕으로 각 방위에 따라 색이 정해져 있으며, 각 색채에는 다양한 의미와 상징이 내포되어 있어 길흉사와 의식주 등 생활 전반에 걸쳐 이용되었을 뿐만 아니라 오늘날에도 영향을 주고 있다.
고죽의 시는 맑고 깨끗하고 차가우며 절제된 기품과 함께 쓸쓸한 고독감을 지니고 있다. 이러한 고죽의 시세계를 가장 잘 나타내는 색채이미지는 백색계열과 청색계열의 색채이미지이다. 고죽 시에 나타난 색채이미지들을 이상 공간의 구축과 정신적 사유, 현실 공간의 묘사와 삶의 지향, 현실 공간 속 애상과 고독으로 나누어 살펴보았다.
이상 공간의 구축과 정신적 사유에서는 佛仙세계의 이상 공간 속에서 자유로운 정신적 사유를 통해 부정한 현실에서 벗어나고 싶어 한 고죽이 그의 내면을 백색과 흑색, 청색계열의 색채이미지로 표출하고 있는 시들을 살펴보았으며 현실 공간의 묘사와 삶의 지향에서는 고죽이 그가 살고 있는 현실의 모습과 지향하는 삶의 모습을 다양한 색채이미지들이 지닌 상징과 의미를 통해 그려낸 시들을 살펴보았다. 현실 공간 속 애상과 고독에서는 고죽이 자신이 겪고 있는 불운한 현실에 대한 애상을, 화려한 색채감 뒤에 쓸쓸하고 고독한 이미지를 지니고 있는 백색이미지나 여운으로 나타내고 있는 시들을 살펴보았다.
고죽의 시에 나타난 색채이미지들은 고죽이 겪은 삶의 경험을 담고 있는 것으로 이에 대한 분석은 그의 시세계와 내면을 심도 있게 살필 수 있는 가장 정확한 방법이자 그 만의 개성을 확인해 볼 수 있는 근거로써 그 의의가 있다고 하겠다.

영어초록

This study aims to find out the inner side and poetic world of Gojook who brought the change of the poetical style of Chosun Dynasty in the 16th century, analyzing his color image in his quatrain. Gojook regarded the nature of poetry as the sincere expression of human sensitivity, so he sought the poems of Tang Dynasty with Okbong, Baek Gwanghoon and Songok, Lee Dal. Gojook's poems represented the characteristics of the poetry of Tang, mingling the various color images with the high standard of pictoriality which was like watching a picture.
Color image can show the visual image of poetry in various and clear ways, doubling the impression of the poems. The analysis of color image is very important work where the inner side and poetic world of poets can be observed, as it is associated with the psychology and experience of human being. In this study, to analyze the color image in Gojook's poems, five cardinal colors are surveyed, which are inferred to influence the color preference of Gojook. Five cardinal colors, which have been used traditionally for a long time, were chosen according to each cardinal on the basis of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements theory. Each color involves a variety of meanings and symbols and has been used in every phase of life, such as ups and downs and food, clothing and shelter up to this day.
The poems of Gojook are pure, clear, cold and lonely with restrained elegance. The color images representing such Gojook's poetic world, are white and blue. The color image with pure, clear and cold blue image is the basis of his poetic character. The color images of Gojook's poems are divided and surveyed into building of ideal space, the spiritual thinking, the description of real space, the respect for life and sorrow and solitude in reality.
In the building of ideal space and spiritual thinking, the poems representing Gojook's inner side with the color image such as white, black and blue to get out of the unfaithful reality through free spiritual thinking in the ideal space of the world of Buddhist and Taoist hermit, are surveyed. And in the description of real space and the respect for life, the poems where Gojook described, through the symbols and meanings of various color images, the appearance of reality he lives and oriented view of life, are examined. In sorrow and solitude in reality, the poems representing the sorrow of his unfortunate reality which he was suffering from, with white image or lingering imagery which appears behind splendid colors are also examined.
The color images in Gojook's poems contain his life experience, so analyzing them is the exact method how his poetic world and inner side can be surveyed and has an important meaning as the basis of finding out his individuality.
