『『화엄경』「여래현상품」의 문학적 표현 (Literary Expressions from 「Yeoraehyeonsangpum」 in 『Avatasakasūtra』『』)

초록

본 논문은 ‘화엄경 여래현상품의 문학적 표현’에 대하여 살펴본 글이다. 이 글은 크게 2가지 측면으로 구성되었는데, 우선 제Ⅱ장에서는 「여래현상품」의 구성과 중심내용에 대하여 첫째, 회처(會處)와 품명(品名)에 담긴 의미를 살펴보고 둘째, 「여래현상품」의 구성을 셋째, 「여래현상품」의 중심내용에 대해 살펴보았다. 다음 제Ⅲ장은 「여래현상품」에 담긴 문학적 표현을 첫째, 광명에 담긴 문학적 표현을 살펴보고 둘째, 등장인물의 게송에 담긴 비유를 경문을 토대로 분석해보고 셋째, 「여래현상품」의 문학적 특징에 대해 살펴보았다.
그 결과, 첫째는 「여래현상품」의 모임장소(會處)는 제1법회인 정각을 이룬 붓다가야의 보리도량[적멸도량]이며, 「여래현상품」은 60권본 『화엄경』에서는 없는 품이고, 80권본 『화엄경』에만 있다는 것이다. 둘째, 회(會)란 경을 설한 모임이고, 처(處)란 이 경을 설한 장소를 말한다는 것이다. 셋째, 불교의 모든 경전은 통상 서론, 본론, 결론에 해당하는 서분, 정종분, 유통분의 형태를 갖추고 있는데, 이 구성상 화엄대경의 제2 「여래현상품」은 오늘날 본론인 정종분에 해당된다. 넷째, 「여래현상품」은 크게 6가지 내용으로 나눌 수 있는데, ①은 대중이 함께 청하는 것이고, ②는 치아 사이의 광명으로 인연중생을 불러 모음이고, ③은 시방 대중들이 구름처럼 모여 듦이고, ④는 상서를 나타내고 설법을 표현함이며, ⑤는 불덕(佛德)을 드날리고 공덕을 찬탄함이고, ⑥은 결론적으로 무궁에 통한다는 것이다. 다섯째, 이품에는 국토의 세계바다 미진수 모든 보살들 등의 인물들이 등장하여, 유려한 문학적 비유와 장치들로써 여래의 모습과 공덕을 찬탄하며 불 세계를 장엄하고 있다는 것이다. 여섯째, 이품에 나타나는 문학적 특징은 주로 비유적 표현들, 열거법과 점층법, 은유와 직유 그리고 의인법 등의 종류로써 다양한 세계의 보살들이 등장해 여래의 모습을 드러내고, 여래의 공덕을 찬탄하는 것으로 귀결되고 있다는 것을 알 수 있다.

영어초록

This study is aimed to examine ‘literary expressions from 「Yeoraehyeonsangpum」 in 『Avatasakasūtra』’. It consists of two aspects largely, and first of all, in Chapter Ⅱ, the organization and key points of 「Yeoraehyeonsangpum」 are investigated. First, hoecheo (會處; the gathering place) and the meaning of pummyeong (品名), second, the organization of 「Yeoraehyeonsangpum」, and third, the key points of 「Yeoraehyeonsangpum」 are examined. Next, in Chapter Ⅲ, literary expressions contained in 「Yeoraehyeonsangpum」 are studied. First, literary expressions contained in Gwangmyeong are discussed, second, metaphors included in Gesong of the characters are analyzed through the Buddhist scriptures, and third, the literary characteristics of 「Yeoraehyeonsangpum」 are examined.
According to the findings, first, the hoecheo of 「Yeoraehyeonsangpum」 is Boridoryang [Jeokmyeoldoryang] where Jeonggak, the first Buddhist ceremony, was realized, and 「Yeoraehyeonsangpum」 is the pum not found in 「Yeoraehyeonsangpum」, the 60-volume edition, but included only in 『Avatasakasūtra』 of the 80-volume edition. Second, hoe (會) means a gathering in which Gyeong is preached, and cheo (處) refers to the place where it is done. Third, all the Buddhist scriptures generally consist of Seobun, Jeongjongbun, and Yutongbun corresponding to the introduction, body, and conclusion, and in consideration of the organization, Hwaeomdaegyeong’s 2nd 「Yeoraehyeonsangpum」 conforms to Jeongjongbun, the body in this age. Fourth, 「Yeoraehyeonsangpum」 consists of largely six parts; ① is where Daejung ask for it together, ② is about collecting Inyeonjungsaeng into the light between the teeth, ③ is about Sibang Daejung gathering like a cloud, ④ is about the representation of auspiciousness and expression of sermons, ⑤ is about spreading Buddhist virtues (佛德) and praising pious acts, and ⑥ is consequently about going through the eternity. Fifth, in this pum, all the characters including countlessly many Bodhisattvas from the world ocean of the land appear to praise the aspects of Yeorae and his pious acts and create the magnificent world of Buddhism with splendid literary analogies and devices. Sixth, the literary characteristics of this pum are mainly found from such items as analogic expressions, listing and gradation, metaphors and similes, and personification, and they are added up to revealing the aspects of Yeorae with Bodhisattvas from different worlds and complimenting his pious deeds.
