中原京地域 基壇建物址의 檢討 (A study of platform building sites in Jungwongyeong region)

초록

본고는 중원경지역 기단건물지에서 확인할 수 있는 대지조성과 기단, 기둥 및 벽체 하부시설, 건물 내부시설 등에 대한 건축적 특성을 살피고 입지와 건물간 배치에 다른 기단건물지의 성격과 의미를 파악하고자 작성되었다. 중원경지역 기단건물지는 입지에 따라 대지조성 및 건물 기단 구축방식을 달리하였으며, 기단의 외장에는 석재와 전돌을 재료로 다양한 형태의 적재방식을 사용하였다. 석재를 정교하게 다듬어 짜맞추는 가구식기단, 석재를 층층이 올려쌓는 적석식기단, 전축기단 등이 사용되었고 이는 건물의 성격과 위계에 따라 선택되었다. 초석과 벽체의 하부시설은 자연석의 상면을 다듬어 사용하고 초석 사이에 할석을 일렬로 배치하는 형태가 가장 많이 사용되었지만, 초석 상부에 주좌와 고맥이를 마련하거나 장대석으로 벽체 기초를 삼는 등 건물의 성격에 따라 하부시설의 조성양상도 다르게 나타나고 있다. 기단건물지에서 확인되는 건축적 특성들은 대부분 고대로부터 이어져 오는 건축기술에 바탕을 둔 것으로, 가구식기단이나 난방시설 등에는 삼국문화의 여러 양상이 혼재되어 나타난다. 또한 이러한 요소들은 보다 실용적인 방향으로 변화·발전하는 양상을 보인다. 사찰에서 보이는 건물간 배치양상 또한 삼국의 가람배치 전통에 기인한 것이며, 사찰의 기능과 의미가 부가되면서 입지와 그에 따른 배치가 다변화되고, 별도의 원락을 구성하여 부가된 기능을 수행하는 공간으로서 역할하게 되었다. 중원경지역은 사통팔달의 지리적 요충지인 까닭에 기단건물지 또한 대부분 주요 교통로를 따라 입지하는 경우가 많은데, 남한강 수계와 영남으로 통하는 내륙교통로에 역원, 사찰, 창고, 관아건물 등이 들어섰다. 이들은 정치, 경제, 종교적 기능에 기반한 것이지만, 교통로를 따라 사람과 물자가 이동하면서 중앙문화가 지방으로 확산되는 통로이자 새로운 지방문화를 창출하는 근거지가 되기도 하였다.

영어초록

This paper explores the architectural features of the building site layout and(crepidoma), pillars and wall bases, as well as indoor facilities found in platform building complexes excavated in Jungwongyeong region(an administrative region of the Unified Silla Dynasty, now Chungju) and analyzes the nature and meaning of the platform with respect to the location and building layout. The building site layout and platform construction method used for the platform building sites in the Jungwongyeong region varied according to their locations, and the outer layers of the platforms were laid with stone materials or bricks using various methods that match the type and hierarchy of the respective buildings. Such methods included furniture-type platforms, in which stone blocks of sophisticated masonry were assembled together, stacked platforms, in which stone pieces were piled into steps, and brick platforms. Most frequently, natural stones with polished top surface were used as cornerstones and wall bases and split stones were arrayed in a straight line between cornerstones, whereas their formation showed different patterns depending on the building type, such as preparing column base and curving on the upper part of the cornerstone or using stone rods as the wall base. Architectural characteristics identified in the platform building sites mostly represented techniques handed down from the ancient times. Specifically, various features of the Three-Kingdom culture appeared in intermingled forms in the furniture-type platforms or floor-heating systems. The changing and developing patterns of these features show the tendency towards fulfilling practical purposes. The arrangement of temple buildings also reflected the tradition of the Three Kingdoms, and the function and meaning endowed to temple buildings contributed to the diversification of their locations and corresponding arrangements of buildings. For example, a separate courtyard was given a role as an additional functional space. Due to the geographical advantage of being open to all directions, Jungwongyeong region was a major traffic hub, and platform building sites tended to be located along the arterial roads. As a result, relay stations for officers of the court, temples, warehouses, and government buildings were spread along the inland arterial roads connecting the South Han River water system to the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula. These buildings originally played political, economic, and religious functions, but as people and goods moved along the arterial roads, they came to play the role of the backbone for creating new regionalcultures.
