朱謙之의 생애와 그 학문적 발자취 (A study on Zhu Qian-Zhi's life and scholarship)

초록

본 논문은 주겸지의 생애와 학문 세계에 대한 고찰을 통해서 근현대 중국 학술 이해의 지평을 확장하여 과거 동서냉전이데올로기가 빚은 반세기 동안의 한중 교류 단절과 공백으로 인해 초래된 현 양국 학술 교류의 편파적인 제반 의식과 장벽 들을 불식시키기 위한 일환이다.
주겸지의 학문과 저작은 크게 유심론자로서의 ‘전기 ― 아나키즘 시기’와 유물론자로서의 ‘후기 ― 마르크스⋅레닌주의 시기’로 구분할 수 있다. 전기 사상의 특징인 허무주의, 유정주의, 역사주의, 문화주의는 전체적으로 아나키즘적 이상을 직간접적으로 담고 있다. 동양의 전통사상과 접맥되는 그의 아나키즘사상은 ‘비관적 허무주의’ 시기와 ‘낙관적 범신주의’ 시기로 양분되어 전개된다. 전자가 노불사상과 관련되어 현실 부정적인 염세주의, 냉소주의, 파괴주의 성향을 사상적으로 표출했다면, 후자는 유가사상이 깊이 개입되어 현실 긍정적인 낙천주의, 인도주의, 평화주의 이념을 학문적으로 구현해냈다.
중국 대륙의 공산화와 함께 주겸지의 사상은 변증유물주의와 역사유물주의 경향의 후기로 접어든다. 이때의 학술적 관심은 마르크스⋅레닌주의에 입각한 중국철학사, 동방철학사, 특히 일본철학, 불교와 중국 기독교 등 방면의 연구로 전향하여 중국의 동방철학과 종교학 분야의 개척자가 된다. 요컨대 귀중한 동방의 문화유산으로 평가받는 그의 백과전서식 저술과 신세계를 염원하는 혁명철학은 한국 내 중국학 연구에 있어 상대적으로 빈약한 근현대 중국사상의 연구 방향에 새로운 자극과 많은 학술적 정보를 제공해준다. 아울러 한국의 인문학계에 향후 중국학 및 중국학자에 대한 새로운 모색이라는 차원에서 그것은 풍부한 학술적 자료라는 가치 말고도 동양학의 현대화적 의미로서의 신선한 충격과 활력임에 틀림없다.

영어초록

This thesis is intended to eliminate a series of one-sided senses and barriers between Korea and China due to discontinuance and blank in Korea-China interchanges for half a century resulted by past the East/the West cold war ideology, by understanding more regarding modern/contemporary Chinese scholarship through studying on Zhu Qian-Zhi's life and scholarship. Thus, it's attempted to help establish more balanced scholarship atmosphere covering both left and right ideologies, and desirable understanding on China. Zhu Qian-Zhi's scholarship and writing activities are largely divided to the two, the former term-anarchism period as a spiritualist and the latter term-Marxism/Leninism that as a materialist. The characteristics of the former term ideology are all of nihilism, respecting-life(including animals' life) idea, historicism, and culturism that bear anarchistic ideal directly/indirectly. His Anarchism period in a connection with eastern traditional ideology is classified to pessimistic nihilism period and optimistic pantheism that. In association with Taoism-Buddhism, the former ideologically expressed denying-reality pessimism, cynicism, and destructionism inclination, while in profound involvement with Confucianism, the latter, in scholarship, embodied accepting-reality optimism, humanitarianism, and pacifism. This ideological change reflects his change of a view of the world that defines ontological world in both spiritualistic and individualistic background. In the same time, this is complicatedly associated with his emotional crookedness in his early days. In the meantime, with communization in China, his ideology entered into dialectical materialism and historical materialism period. His scholarly interests turned to studies on Chinese philosophy history based on Marxism and Leninism, eastern philosophy history, especially Japanese philosophy, Buddhism, and Chinese Christianity, and he became a pioneer on eastern philosophy and science of religion in China. In sum, his encyclopedia way of writing which is evaluated to eastern cultural heritage and revolutionary philosophy which wishes Utopia provides a new stimulation and a plenty of scholarly information in studies on modern/contemporary Chinese ideologies which are relatively poor in sinology studies in Korea. Moreover, in the level of a new approach on sinology and sinologist in the future in Korea, it's obvious that his work is a fresh impact and energy as a modernized meaning of Oriental studies as well as it is a abundant scholarly material.
