    초록

    Objectives: Topical fluoride application has been used in order to prevent dental caries and to treat the hypersensitivity in the cervical area of tooth for several decades. It is necessary to examine the effectiveness and the usefulness of topical fluoride application according to the application methods.
    Methods: One hundred and ten of healthy teeth that were extracted via orthodontic treatment were selected and divided into four experimental groups and one control group. Each experimental group was divided into nine subgroups according to application time and concentration (NaF 1% by 1, 2, 4 min, NaF 2% by 1, 2, 4 min, NaF 4% by 1, 2, 4 min), total number of subgroups is 9. We added gel tray and control group, then 11 groups were studied. Each group had ten teeth as a sample size. The fluoride concentration of enamel was measured through ion chromatography. Afterward, the specimen was observed through scanning electron microscopy.
    Results: Mean concentrations of NaF solution by keeping temperatures (-4, 4, 18, 30℃) and keeping periods (1, 15, 30, 60 days) were not shown any statistical differences. The fluoride concentration of enamel increased by the time period for fluoride iontophoresis at NaF 1% solution group, and increased the fluoride concentration of enamel by the current increased. The fluoride concentration of enamel reached the highest point after fluoride iontophoresis was performed at NaF 2% solution for 1 min. Through scanning electron microscopy, Fluoride ion density by 2% NaF iontophoresis was higher than that of APT-gel-tray technique.
    Conclusions: In conclusion, fluorapatite was observed highest on enamel after fluoride iontophoresis was performed at 2% NaF solution for 1 min. These results indicate that the fluoride iontophoresis under a proper condition may be useful to prevent dental caries on enamel and to treat dentinal hypersensitivity.
