    초록

    The present article examines the story of Dinah in Genesis 34 through the eyes of the victim of sexual violence within the context of #Metoo movement in Korea, which had become widespread since 2018. Reading Dinah’s story from her perspective is important especially as her voice is totally excluded from the text. The narrator and the later biblical interpreters working from the platform of traditional sexual ethics seem to blame her forwardness and her beauty as the cause of the sexual violation. The narrator and many male interpreters are sympathetic towards or advocate on behalf of Shechem saying that his love for Dinah after the sexual violation and his solution for the incident through marriage count in his favour.
    Against traditional readings of Dinah’s story, this study claims that without Dinah’s own voice, no one can easily judge the nature of the incident whether it was a love affair, date rape, or sexual violence followed by kidnapping. The nature and type of sexual violence must be judged not by how hard the victim resisted or how much the man loves the woman but by the victim’s sexual rights, that is by whether she actually agreed or not.
    This study also points out that the male actions based on what happened to Dinah did not in fact concern themselves with the human rights of the victim. Rather, the men were interested in the well-being of their position and of patriarchal society and their act of revenge was for the sake of their honor.
    In conclusion, this study defines the story of Dinah in Genesis 34 as a story of sexual violence by power, not a romantic affair or mutual consent. It suggests that readers need to deal with cases of sexual violence in the past as well as in the present by considering the situation through the eyes of the victim. The right of women to decide whether or not to engage in sexual activity by themselves is the key for the judgement of sexual violations as well as the solution afterwards.
