『겐지 모노가타리』의 계절독경(季の御読経) 고찰 (A Study of 'Kinomidokyou' in 『The Tale of Genji』)

초록

季の御読経は平安時代に行われた宮中行事の一つで、春秋に國家安泰を祈るため僧侶達を宮中に招いて大般若經の読誦をさせる法会を言う。特に『源氏物語』に叙述されている季の御読経は中宮の主催で行われるのを極めて美しく描写している。実際、平安時代の最高の権力家であった藤原道長とその娘である彰子中宮は季の御読経と法華八講会などの仏教行事を頻繁に開催している。『源氏物語』の季の御読経はそのような歴史的な人物と行事を背景にしている。故に『源氏物語』の季の御読経を把握するためには歴史的な背景も供に考察すべきである。それで本稿では『源氏物語』の季の御読経の具体象と其の行事の裏に隠されている政治的な意図について考察する。また当時、平安時代の貴族達が持っていた四季観とその四季観が反映されている季の御読経との関連性を把握する。それを通じて季の御読経という仏教行事が物語の中で何の役割を果たしているか、考察してみる。

영어초록

‘Kinomidokyou' is one of the ritual events held in the Heian period. In springand fall, Buddhist monks were sent into the palace to recite ‘the Sutra of GreatWisdom’. This Buddhist ceremony was done for the national tranquility. From amongseveral Buddhist rituals and events which are described in ‘Genjimonogatari’, thispaper looks deeply into ‘Kinomidokyou’. That is, this paper is intended to figureout what religious and political status this event has and what the Japanese culturalroot is in Monogatari, by understanding the correlation between the nobles’ thoughtson four seasons in the Heian period and ‘Kinomidokyou’ which reflects theirthoughts.
In reality, Hujiwarano mitinaga who was the most powerful person in Heian periodand Syousi who was his daughter and also the queen consort of Emperor Itijyoufrequently held Buddhist rituals such as ‘Kinomidokyou’ and “the ceremony ofreading eight books of ‘the Sutra of the Lotus’” in person. Therefore, these historicalfigures and events became the basis of ‘Kinomidokyou’ which appears in‘Genjimonogatari’. In this story, the details can be understood by paying attentionon the main character ‘Hikarugenji’ and the Queen ‘Akikonomu’ who had him onher side. However, ‘Kinomidokyou’ of ‘Genjimonogatari’ is not only depicted asa Buddhist ritual that had political intention. That is, the nobles’ ritual of seasonsis portrayed splendidly by showing the behaviors of Akikonomu who presided over‘Kinomidokyou’ and the main female character Murasakinoue who supported thisevent. From this aspect, the way that the debate on superiority of spring and autumn(which is a unique thought on four seasons) is reflected in the piece and how thisis applied to the character’s life can be understood. Furthermore, aestheticconsciousness in ‘Genjimonogatari’ can also be found out.
