초록

In the above, this thesis analyzed 'the beauty of chivalrousness' which had literarily been expressed in the poems written before <Hwangchang Dance>, <Xiang Zhuang's Dance> and <A Sword Dance> performed by a prostitute through a record on envoys' visits and a seeing fun poem in the latter period of the Josun dynasty, and explored 'the aesthetic sense of chivalrousness' which was the artistic temperament intrinsic to an artist. It could look out upon the aesthetic sense of chivalrousness internal to artistic prostitutes' inner consciousness through the works formalized as literature based on the artists' concrete and particular feeling and interest. In particular, it extracted the literary expressions such as their chivalrous atmosphere, chivalrous temperament, chivalrousness, vigorous spirit, female chivalrousness and gallantry from <A Sword Dance[Hwangchang Dance, Xiang Zhuang's Dance], which were the items of dances prevailing nationwide in the latter period of the Josun dynasty and necessarily appearing in envoys' visits.
In short, chivalrousness has the feature of gallantry from ancient times to the latter period of the Josun dynasty, but involves the meanings of integrity, justice and wisdom together with beauty with the changes of the times. Also, it was used in the context of revealing the traits of heroism, spirit and trust. But it meant more things in the domain of art in the latter period of the Josun dynasty. It did not have importance attached to its own meanings, but was used as a means of expressing an artist's temperament, that is, as a method of revealing the spirit, energy and motion of chivalrousness. Such a respect could be known through the creative works of the artists in the period.
For an artiste's aesthetic sense of chivalrousness shown in a literary work in the period, chivalrousness was not expressed only as a literary expression appearing in the artist's consciousness. By prostitutes' lives and artistic talents and temperaments of 'gallantry' and 'chivalry' communicating with the consciousness of chivalrousness as the essence of a sword dance, the aesthetic sense of chivalrousness had already been internal to the artistes' inner consciousness. It can be said that 'the aesthetic sense of chivalrousness' internal to their insides like it had motivated their artistic activities.
A literary expression of depicting a dancing prostitute like it very clearly reflects the external chivalrous temperament of the dancing motion and the artist's inner consciousness of chivalrousness. Artistes exhibited their artistic talents professionally and to the full through the aesthetic senses of chivalrousness internal to their insides. In other words, chivalrousness is the spiritual and technical temperament intrinsic to artistes. The temperament of chivalrousness functioned as an artiste's own existence formula and life-style and a method of expressing the artistic activity of pursuing artistic free consciousness and creativity.
Thus, 'the aesthetic senses of chivalrousness' can be said to be a method of expressing a dance and temperament[talent] of artistic activity expressed from artistes' inner consciousness. Also, 'chivalrousness' can be said to be an important concept of revealing best the aesthetic sense of a dance in the period and basis of a new aesthetic sense in Korean dance.
