크세넥(Ernst Křenek, 1900-1991)의 1929년 작곡된 연가곡 《오스트리아 알프스로부터의 여행문》(Reisebuch aus den österreichischen Alpen, op. 62, 1929)에 대한연구의목적은 20세기전반,즉 독일어권의 음악적 경향은 무조음악을 지나 12음기법이 화두에 올라 있었고 예술가곡 창작은오케스트라가곡과실내악 가곡까지그 영역이 확장되었던이 시기의‘피아노 반주’에의한예술가곡 창작 경향과 이 연가곡 《여행문》이 갖는 장르사적 위치 확인에 있다. “프로테우스와 유사한”(Proteushafte)것으로 비교되는 크세넥의 다양한 변화를 담고 있는 전 창작시기에 걸쳐 5개의연가곡을 포함하여 30곡이 넘는 예술가곡 창작했고, 특히 그의 창작시기 가운데 ‘낭만주의 창작시기’에《여행문》외에도 많은가곡을 작곡했다는 사실은 크세넥이 낭만주의예술가곡 전통을 20세기전반까지확장시켰음을 확인시켜준다. 20곡으로구성된 연가곡 《여행문》의작품연구는 작곡가가 쓴 텍스트와 음악 작품이라는 두 예술 영역으로 나누어 진행되었다. 텍스트의 기본 개념이‘방랑’에 있다는 것 그리고 자연에 대한 숭고함과 아름다움을 포함한 것은 19세기 서정시 문학에 대한 내용과 연계될 수 있었다. 또한 텍스트에 담긴 시인(크세넥)의‘ 인간적 그리고 예술가적 정체성 찾기’의 다의적 해석은 음악어법적 내용과 결합되어 《여행문》이 음악과 문학이라는 두 예술영역이 결합된 19세기 예술가곡의 장르사적 위치를 연장하고 확장하였음을 증명하고 있다. 이 연가곡에 담긴 음악적 내용은 텍스트의 다의성에 부합하여 작곡가의 낭만적 음악어법부터 표현주의적 음악어법으로의 변화의 과정을 담고있다. 낭만적 음악어법은악곡 끝과 중간부분에서의 조성적종지,리듬적종지감을동반하는 3화음을 이용한 종지, 동일한 음형으로 각 연을 시작하는 유절가곡 분위기 형성, 슈베르트를 연상시키는 선율과 반주, 텍스트의 전개와 분위기를 조성 변화로 담아낸 것 등을 통해 확인되었다. 20세기 음악에서 이 연가곡이 갖는 진가는 이러한 낭만적인 음악어법의 직접적인 수용과 연결했을 때 보다는 조성적으로 낯선 요소들을 삽입함으로 얻어낸 ‘확장된 조성’을 바탕으로 텍스트를 음악화한 것에서 찾을 수 있다. 이중조성과 진정동형진행을 통한 무조적 분위기 형성, 패로디라 할 수 있는 익숙한 음악의 낯설게 하기, 꽉 채워지지 않은 화음의 적절한운용, 온음계에 근거한 화음에 방해음을 첨가하여 인상주의적, 표현주의적 분위기(12개 반음의 음렬기법적 운용을통해예시한)를 형성한 것 등은 이 연가곡이 갖는 ‘전통의 새롭게 하기’라는 특징을 확인시켜 준다. 이러한 내용들은 20세기 예술가곡이라는 장르사적 의미에서 연가곡《여행문》이 갖는 진가이다.

영어초록

This study focuses on an analysis of the Song cycle Reisebuch aus den österreichischenAlpen(op.62) by Ernst Křenek(1900-1991). When Křenek composed this Song cycle in 1929, theOrchersterlied had become a main genre in the 20th concert program and since Pierrot lunaire,Lied accompanied by a chamber ensemble elevated its position high in vocal music creation. Therefore, the conventional 19th century art song with piano accompaniment tradition had notcontinued into the 20th century.
Křenek completed 31 art songs in his life. And this means a lot in the history of 20th centuryart song. Another fact that Křenek was of great importance in the history of 20th century artsong is that he composed five Song cycles. Among these, four are based on his own poem,and the other one is Reisebuch aus den österreichischen Alpen. Composing Song cycle on hisown poem verify the fact that Křenek was a person of a literary turn of mind and he faithfullyfollowed the Song cycle tradition of the 19th century in purpose of unfolding a story based onone theme.
Křenek’s Reisebuch aus den österreichischen Alpen consists of 20 pieces(19 songs and anEpilog added later) and is modeled on Wienterreise by F. Schubert. The Romantic inclinationappeared in this Song cycle is the use of consistent rhythmic pattern in the song number eight‘Unser Wein’, the pattern also favored by Schubert’s piano pieces. As Schubert describeddisenchantment of love in hisWienterreise, the fact that Křenek depicted his own hapless lovefor his homeland in this Song cycle is also considered to be a reflection of Romantic tendency. Křenek recapitulated the theme of the first song in the song number nineteen ‘Heimkehr’ andthis is compared to the construction of Schumann’s Song cycle Frauenliebe und -leben.
There are several factors in this Song cycle that continued the 19th century art song tradition,musical aspects of the cycle contain various contents of the 20th century. Twenty songs canbe divided into two categories according to musical language: songs in Romantic musicallanguages are song number one ‘Motiv’, number seven ‘Regentatg’, number eight ‘Unser Wein’;songs in Expressionism musical languages are song number eleven ‘Alpenbewohner’, numbertwelve ‘Politik’. There are songs with text simply describing apparent impressions of journeysuch as song number two ‘Verkehr’, number three ‘Kloster in den Alpen’, and number six‘Friedhof im Gebirgsdorf’. But those which put psychological, moral, social, and political contentsinto text are song number five ‘Traurige Stunde’, number nine ‘Rückblick’ and number twelve‘Politik’. The close relationship between text and musical languages are conformed throughthe analyses.
