조선 전기 관요백자의 명문이 갖는 二元的 성격 (The Dualism Possessed by the Inscription of White Porcelain Produced in the Royal Kiln(官窯) Following the Establishment of Royal Kiln in Joseon Period)

초록

조선 전기 官窯白瓷에 표시된 명문은 ‘天·地·玄·黃’과 ‘大·中·世·處’의 두 가지 그룹으로 구분된다. 이 논문은 각 명문 그룹의 의미를 파악하여 조선 전기 관요백자의 생산에 司饔院과 內需司가 함께 참여했 음을 밝히려는 시도이다. 관요에서 제작된 백자에 표시된 명문이 二元的으로 구분되는 것은 관요백자의 제작주체와 사용처 역시 둘로 나누어졌기 때문에 나타나는 현상이다.
사옹원에서 사용되는 백자에는 ‘天·地·玄·黃’ 등 4개의 천자문 자호를 표시하였다. 이러한 구분은 사옹원의 각종 업무의 실무책임자였던 4명의 提調를 의미할 것이다. 사옹원은 國初의 사옹방 시절부터 司饔四番을 기준으로 인적구성을 갖추었으며 그 후로도 사옹원의 제조는 기본적으로 4의 배수로 정해졌다. 따라서 물품의 관리 역시 4개의 구분단위로 이루어졌고, 그 때문에 사옹원이 관리했던 관요백자에는 ‘天· 地·玄·黃’의 천자문 자호가 표시되었던 것으로 판단된다.
조선 전기에 이루어진 관요백자의 생산에는 사옹원뿐만 아니라 내수사도 일정부분 역할을 담당했다. 내수사의 주된 업무는 왕실의 內用재산을 관리하고 그에 필요한 각종 물품을 조달했다. 그로 인하여 내수사는 사기장 등의 京工匠을 배속 받아 필요한 內用瓷器를 자체적으로 제작했다. 따라서 내수사가 관리하는 백자에는 사옹원의 백자와는 달리 ‘大·中·世·處’명을 표시하여 구분했다. 해당명문은 각각 大殿, 中宮殿, 世子殿과 그 외의 왕족 및 내수사의 범용을 위한 그릇을 의미하는 것으로 사료된다.
사옹원과 내수사가 관요백자에 서로 다른 명문을 표시한 것은 國用과 內用의 물품을 구별하여 성격 이 다른 물품이 서로 뒤섞이는 것을 방지하기 위함이다.

영어초록

Following the establishment of royal kiln(官窯) in Joseon period, the inscription, which was marked on white porcelain, is divided into two groups of ‘Cheon(天)ㆍJi(地)ㆍHyeon(玄) ㆍHwang(黃)’ and ‘Dae(大)ㆍJung(中)ㆍSe(世)ㆍCheo(處).’ This study aims to clarify that both Saongwon(司饔院) and Naesusa(內需司) participated in manufacturing the white porcelain of the royal kiln in the early Joseon period by grasping a meaning of each inscription group. What is dually divided the inscription that was marked on the white porcelain produced in the royal kiln is the phenomenon that is shown due to being different from the producing subject and the using source in the white porcelain produced in the royal kiln.
On the white porcelain that is used in Saongwon, first four pieces of characters in the Thousand-Character Classic such as ‘CheonㆍJiㆍHyeonㆍHwang’ were expressed. This division may imply four Jejo(提調)s who had been working-level personnel and managering officer in many tasks of Saongwon. Saongwon had a constituent of human resources based on Saongsabeon(司饔四番) which separate constituent of human resources and tasks by the method of quartering from the days of Saongbang(司饔房) in the beginning of the national foundation. Even after it, Jejo of Saongwon was basically set to be a multiple of four. Accordingly, even the management of the goods was made with four division units, thereby being judged to have been indicated characters of the Thousand-Character Classic in ‘CheonㆍJiㆍHyeonㆍHwang’ on the white porcelain produced in the royal kiln that had been administered by Saongwon.
The white porcelain produced in the royal kiln of the early Joseon period was taken charge of a partial role even by Naesusa as well as Saongwon. Unlike Saongwon, Naesusa managed the privy purse asset which designated as Naeyong(內用) of royal family and prepared several kinds of goods. Naesusa itself manufactured a group of white porcelain that is necessary for kind of privy purse use. Accordingly, unlike the white porcelain of Saongwon, the white porcelain that is managed by Naesusa was divided by being marked the name of ‘DaeㆍJungㆍSeㆍCheo.’ The corresponding inscription is considered to imply a bowl, respectively, for a king´s palace(大殿), place of the Queen(中宮殿), place of crown prince(世子殿), other royal family and for a wide use of Naesusa.
What Saongwon and Naesusa indicate the mutually different inscription on the white porcelain produced in the royal kiln is to prevent the goods with a different character from being mutually mixed by distinguishing the goods between national use called Gukyong(國用) and privy purse refer to Naeyong.
