낙동강 상류지역 세장방형 석실묘를 통한 지역집단간 교류 연구 (A regional study of polity interactions through the long rectangular stone chamber tombs in the Upper Nakdong River basin)

초록

낙동강 상류지역의 세장방형 석실묘는 5세기 영남지역의 일반적인 석실묘 형태와는 뚜렷하게 구별되며, 일정한 공간성을 가지고 있다. 이 지역에서 석실묘는 5세기 1/4분기로영남지역에서는 가장 빨리 출현하고 있으며, 중엽에는 세장방형 석실묘 문화권이 형성되기 시작한다.
이 독특한 석실묘문화는 낙동강을 따라 형성된 문화와 소백산맥 이북의 백제 및 고구려와의 교류에 의해서 성립되었다. 영남지역보다 빨리 석실묘가 출현한 백제나 고구려로부터석실묘 장법을 채택한 것은 목곽묘 단계였으며, 석실묘의 일부 요소는 이 목곽묘에서 계승된 것으로 볼 수 있다.
그런데 이 석실묘가 상류지역 모든 집단의 전형적인 묘제로 자리잡은 것은 아니다. 상주헌신동-성동리 지역집단을 제외하고는 고총분묘 축조 집단의 일부 계층에서 한정적으로수용되고 있다. 각 지역집단 엘리트들은 이 석실묘 형식을 지역집단간에 직접적이거나 수동적인 교류에 의한 것이 아니라 정보교환에 의하여 선택적으로 수용하면서, 폭넓은 네트워크를 형성한 것이다.
따라서 낙동강 상류지역 5세기 세장방형 석실묘 분포권은 중심지와 주변지의 위계적인단선적ㆍ일방적 전파가 아니라 인접한 지역집단간의 문화적 교류에 의해서 형성되었다. 그리고 이 문화권 형성은 사회적 맥락과 관련된 지역집단간의 공통적인 내ㆍ외적 요인이 반영된 것이다.

영어초록

The long rectangular stone chamber tombs of the Upper Nakdong River basin are unique in their plans and shapes, which are different from the plans and shapes of other stone chamber tombs. They also appeared in the early half of the 5th century in Youngnam Region, which is considered to be the earliest example in the region. In the mid 5th century the cultural sphere of the rectangular stone chamber tombs began to be formed.
These typical tombs are thought to have been influenced by the external cultural interactions of the polities in the Upper Nakdong River basin with Baekje Kingdom and Goguryeo Kingdom. It was the phase of wooden chamber tombs in Youngnam Region that witnessed the adoption of the long rectangular stone chamber tombs and their mortuary practices. So some elements of the long rectangular stone chamber tombs had handed down from previous traditions of wooden chamber tombs.
By the way this long rectangular stone chamber tombs had not been adopted by all social groups in the Upper Nakdong River basin generally. They had been adopted by only limited social groups among the high mound tomb builders in the region. That is, by way of active interactions including information exchanges, the elites of the region adopted these tombs actively and selectively. They also established a wide interaction networks through such processes.
Therefore the cultural sphere of the long rectangular stone chamber tombs dated to the 5th century in the Upper Nakdong River basin are not thought to be the results of the unilinear unequal center-peripheral relationship, but it is the result of the active cultural interactions with neighbouring regional groups. Some of common internal and external factors among the neighbouring regional polities, which were related to social contexts, are considered to have played influential roles in the formation of the cultural sphere.
