임진강 중류 민통선 지역의 구석기유적 (Palaeolithic Site of Mintongseon Area on the Midstream of Yimjin River)

초록

임진강 중류지역에서 확인된 구석기유적은 모두 18 지점으로 모두 민통선지역에 해당된다. 행정적으로 연천 횡산리에서 11 지점, 삼꽂리에서 5 지점, 강내리에서 2 지점이 구석기유적으로 확인되었으며, 이 중 12 개의 지점은 2004년도 육군사관학교 화랑대연구소의 문화재 지표조사에서 확인되었다.
함경남도 덕원군 두류산에서 시작되는 임진강은 경기도 연천으로 진임하면서 중변 횡산리와 왕정면 강내리에서 누인 S자형으로 곡류하는데 이 지역 주변의 나지막한 구릉에서 멘석기들이 확인되었다. 석기가 확인되는 유적의 지표면은 대부분 붉은색 계통의 찰흙질로 모두 제4기 갱신세에 형성된 지층으로 파악된다. 경작으로 인하여 생긴 지층 단변에서는 토양쐐기가 관찰되기도 한다.
수습된 석기는 몸돌, 격지. 자갈돌석기 (core tools), 잔손질된 석기 (retouched tools)로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 자갈돌석기는 주먹도끼. 가로날도끼, 주먹찌트개, 여리변석기, 주먹대패, 긁개(core-scraper), 단면찍개, 안팎날찍개 등이며, 잔손 절된 석기로는 흠날, 밀개, 긁개(side-scraper) 등이 있다.
석기의 돌감으로는 대부분이 석영과 규암이 사용되었으며, 그 분포는 거의 반반인데, 임진강 주변에서 흔히 발견되는 돌감을 택한 것으로 파악된다. 석영과 규암 외에 현무암, 응회암, 석영맥암 등도 석재로 이용되었다석기의 구성은 대부분 구석기시대 전기적인 특성을 갖는다고 볼 수 있다. 특히 주먹도끼는 서구의 아슐라안에서 나타나는 주먹도끼들과 같은 종류로 대부분이 붐통이 두럽고. 첨두형이며, 격지가 크게 떨어진 것이 특정이다.
봄돌 중에는 아직 전형적인 단계에는 이르지 못했지만 성형단계에 있는 좀돌날몸돌이 수습되어 후기구석기 문화가 존재하였음을 보여주고 있다. 임진강유역 연천 전곡리유적의 상한은 용암대지와 그 위를 덮고 있는 퇴적층의 관계에 따라 4-5 만년 전, 20만년 전, 30만년 전으로 보기도 하는데, 펀년문제는 이 지역 구석기자료를 이해하는데 중요한 문제로서 임진강 중류 구석기 유적틀의 연구적 가지는 중요하다고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

Palaeolithic sites confirmed on the midstream arεa of Yimjin Rivεrare 18 spo t s in total and all of them are included in Mintongseon(The civilian passage restriction line) area. 11 spots of Whoengsan-ri, Y eonchεon. 5 spots of Samgod-ri, and 2 spots of Gangnae-ri were administratively confirmed as Palaeolithic sites. Among them. 12 spots ”ere confirmed through an index research executed by Institute of Hwarangdae of Korεan military academy in 2004.
Yimjin River starting from Dooryu Mountain in Deogwon-gun, Hamgyeongnam-do makεs a laid-S letter shaped meandering at Whoengsan-ri in Joong-myun and Gangnaε-ri in Wanjing-myun at the time of entering into Yeoncheon, Gyonggi-do and Chipped stone implements were found at the low and small hillock around this area. The earth surface of relics that stone artifacts could be confirmed has a kind of red colored clay and all of them are thought to be a layer formed at Quartemary Period Pleistocene. Sometimes, at the part of a layer section formed by cultivation, soil wedge is shown.
Found stone artifacts can be divided into Core, Flake, Pebble tools(Core tools) and Retouchεd tools, etc .. Pebble tools include Biface, Cleaver, Pick, Polyhedra, Plane, Core-scraper, Chopper and Chopping tool, etc .. Retouched tools include Notched tool, End-scraper, Sidε-scraper, etc ..
Quartz and Quartzite were mostly used as stone materials of stone artifacts and its distribution is almost half and half. It is thought they selected the stone materials easily found around Yimjin River. Basalt, tuff, quartz and dike lock, etc. were used as stone materials.
It is considered that stone artifacts usually have some legendary specialty. Specially, Biface can be considered to be the same kind as the Bifaces appearing at Acheulean(called as Acheulean typed Biface until now) and its body is thick and peak type and its specialty is that its chippεd stone piεce is big.
Even though somε of Cores weren’t reached typical level, the finding of Micro blade core is verifying that culture of Upper Paleolithic existed. The scars of relics of Jeongok-ri, Yεoncheon on the midstream of Yimjin River are considered that they existεd 4∼50,000 years ago, 200,000 yεars ago and around 300,000 years ago, etc. according to their relations of lave platεau and its upper river drift layers. This chronological matter is very important to understand Paleolithic data of this area and the research value of Paleolithic rεlics around the midstream of Yimjin Rivεr is also very important.
