차강 박기정의 선비정신과 예술정신 연구 (A Study on the Chagang Park, Guijeong's scholarly Spirit and Art Spirit)

초록

차강 박기정은 구한말과 일제 강점기를 거치는 실로 국운의 비운과 오롯이 일생을 함께 한 재야의 서화가 중 한 사람이다. 재예가 뛰어나 뒷날 그 유품들이 지인들과 학계의 일부 학자들에 의해 회자되면서 빛을 발하고 있지만 서화를 연구하는 학자들조차도 차강의 이 름자를 모를 정도로 알려지지 않은 인물이다. 이렇게 알려지지 않은 연유에는 차강의 불 의와 타협하지 않는 곧은 성품과 차강이 주로 활동했던 강원도라는 지역적인 특성도 한 몫했던 것으로 짐작할 수 있다. 이러한 이유로 차강은 오늘날에는 그 이름이 잊혀져 그저 당대의 묵객정도로만 알려져 있다. 그러나 이는 분명 잘못 알고 있는 것이다. 차강은 서화에 모두 그 재예가 뛰어났다. 서(書)에 있어서는 행서와 초서를 비롯하여 예서 등 각 서체에 두루 능하였고, 화(畵)에 있어서는 사군자를 비롯하여 괴석에 이르기까지 문인화의 높은 경지에 이른 근대 강원도 에서는 찾아보기 드문 서화가라 평해지고 있다. 차강 필적의 기개가 얼마나 뛰어났던지 강원도지에는 ‘서화를 잘하여 세상 사람들이 명가라 칭한 유일한 인물’로 기록되어 있 다. 특히 차강은 난을 칠 때 땅 위에 뿌리를 드러낸 노근란(露根蘭)을 주로 그렸는데, 이는 일제식민지 조선 땅에는 난초를 심지 않겠다는 차강의 강인한 지조가 나타난 것으로 판 단된다. 그러나 지금의 현실은 그 이름조차 기억하지 못하고 있다. 서화전적에서도 이름 을 찾아보기 힘들 정도로 그에 대해 전하는 기록은 미비하다. 구한말과 일제강점기를 거 치면서 차강의 올곧은 정신도 국운의 비운과 함께 묻혀버린 것이다. 본 논고는 차강의 선비정신과 예술정신을 중심으로 고찰하였다. 차강의 선비정신은 그 의 대표작으로 지칭되는 난과 대나무 그림을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 또한 애국․애족의 마 음으로 행하였던 의병활동과 항일운동을 중심으로 차강의 행적을 살펴보며 마음속에 품 었던 선비정신을 고찰해보았다. 다음으로 차강의 예술정신에서는 차강의 대표적인 서화 작품을 통해서 그의 예술정신이 어떤 의미로 남아 전하는지 살펴보았다. 1)서화가의 바탕 이 되는 내적인 인격의 완성을 繪事後素로, 2)차강 작품에 생기와 풍격, 그리고 의미를 부여하는 정신적인 힘을 氣韻生動으로, 3)차강의 작품세계를 한 단어로 정리한 듯한 차강 말년에 직접 써서 전하는 秋水精神으로 나누어 살펴보았다.

영어초록

Chagang(此江) Park, Gijeong(朴基正)(1874~1949) was one of the paintings and calligraphy works artists out of the painters' society, who devoted his life to the tragedy of the country's fate which went through late Joseon period and Japanese colonial era. He became famous by being acknowledged his acquaintances and some scholars with his keepsakes later, since he was excellent in talent, however he was not widely known as much even the paintings and calligraphy works researchers do not know the name of Chagang. There might be a major reason why Chagang's straight character that never compromised with injustice and the regional characteristic where he mainly acted. Due to this reason, Chagang was forgotten today, known as a calligrapher(墨客) of the period. However, this is definitely wrong. Chagang was known for his excellent talent both in painting and calligraphy. In respect of calligraphy(書), he was widely good at various handwritings such as Yeseo(隸書), Haengseo(行書), as well as Choseo(草書), also, in respect of painting(畵), he was evaluated as an extraordinary painter who was rare in modern Gangwondo, who reached a high stage of literary painting such as oddly shaped stones(怪石) including Sagunja(四君子). Spirit of Chagang stroke was so outstanding that he was recorded as a sole person in Gangreungjo ofGangwondojithat 'people called him a master, since he was good at paintings and calligraphy'. Also, Chagang mainly drew Nogeunnan(露根蘭) when drawing orchid, which exposed root on the ground, which is determined to show Chagang's firm fidelity regarding that he would not plant orchid on Joseon land under Japanese colonial period. However, current reality does not even remember his name. Record on him is minor, as much as his name could not found in Seohwajeonjeok. Because Chagang's upright spirit was buried along with the tragic fate of the nation while going through late Joseon and Japanese colonial period. This research aimed at investigating Chagang's classical scholar spirit and art philosophy. First, this research investigated Chagang's classical scholar spirit based on orchid(蘭) picture and bamboo(竹) picture, which are called Chagang's representative works. Also, this research investigated Chagang's spirit of classical scholar that he included in his heart, while searching his deeds mainly with Righteous army activity and anti-Japanese movement that he exerted in his heart of patriotism․devotion to the people. Next, this research investigated the significance of Chagang's art spirit that remains through his representative paintings and calligraphy works in respect of Chagang's art philosophy. This research investigated by dividing into 1)Hwesahuso(繪事後素), completion of inner personality, the basic of the painting and calligraphy artist, 2)Giwoonsaengdong(氣韻生動), the spiritual power that presents liveliness, character, and significance to Chagang's works, and 3)Chusujeongsin(秋水精神) that delivered in Chagang's latter years, which seemed to arrange his work world with one word, with Chusu spirit that he had directly written.
