보성강·탐진강 유역 지석묘사회의 변동 양상 - 지석묘의 분포, 구조, 관계를 중심으로 - (Changes of Dolmen societis in the Boseong River and Tamjin River Basin - Focusing on the distribution, structure, and relationship of dolmens -)

초록

본고에서는 지석묘 축조라는 매장 의례를 공유하며 사회를 구성하고 있었던 보성강·탐진강 유역사람들의 행위와 상호작용에 초점을 맞추어 사회 변동의 역동성을 살펴보았다.
보성강·탐진강 유역의 지석묘 문화는 형식과 출토유물을 통해 볼 때 공시적·통시적으로 동질성을 지니며 전개되었던 것으로 파악된다. 두 유역의 지석묘 축조 공동체는 수 세기 동안 공존하며 문화를 형성하였던 주체였으며, 동일한 사회 변화 과정을 거쳤던 집단이었다.
하지만 미시적 차원에서는 각기 다른 양상으로 변화하였을 것으로 보이는데, 이는 지석묘 군집 유형을 통해 설명할 수 있다. 지석묘군은 배치와 구성을 기준으로, 열상과 비열상의 군집에 위석식지석묘들이 축조된 Ⅰ유형과 열상의 군집, 위석식지석묘만으로 구성된 Ⅱ유형, 비열상 군집과 위석식지석묘들이군집을 이루는 Ⅲ유형으로 분류할 수 있다. Ⅰ유형은 열상의 지석묘 배치로 대변되는 전통적 사회 질서의 전환을 통해 새로운 정치 권력의 등장을 차별화하는 한편, 매장 의례 공간을 지속적으로 점유함으로써 공동체의 통합을 시도하였던 사회 구조의 재편 과정으로 해석된다. Ⅱ유형과 Ⅲ유형에 나타난 공간구조는 전통과 질서를 유지하려는 유력 개인 또는 공동체의 의지와 기념물 축조를 통해 공동체성을 강화하려는 전략이 반영된 결과로 보인다. 이처럼 지석묘 축조 공간은 전통적 사회 구조와 조화를 유지하는 한편, 주도권을 전환하거나 정체성을 새롭게 하려는 사회적 행위가 투영된 장소로 볼 수 있다. 즉, 지석묘군은 사회 구조/행위 간의 변증법적 관계가 상호 순환되는 장소로서의 의미를 지니고 있었다.
한편, Ⅰ유형에서 보이는 사회 변화의 역동성은 자원 확보와 정보 접근에 유리한 공간적 우위가 작용한 결과로 보인다. 국지적 차원의 가시권과 네트워크 분석 결과, Ⅰ유형은 주변 공동체와의 상호작용이 유리한 지점에 위치하고 근접중심성도 높았다. 뿐만 아니라, 지역적 차원에서 네트워크 조직을통제하고 영향력을 미칠 수 있는 공간적 지위를 차지하고 있었다. Ⅰ유형 지석묘 축조집단은 이러한공간적 우위를 배경으로 외래품의 입수와 정보 접근에 권한을 행사하며 사회 변화를 주도하는 주체로서 역할을 담당하고 있었던 것이다.

영어초록

This paper looked at the dynamics of social change by focusing on the actions and interactions of the people in the Boseong River and Tamjin River basins, who shared the burial ritual of constructing a dolmens. The culture of the dolmens in the Boseong River and Tamjin River basins was homogeneous in terms of Type and excavated relics, and it is understood that they developed in a synchronic and diachronic relationship. The communities of the two basins coexisting and forming cultures for centuries are recognized as groups that have undergone the same social change process. However, it seems to have changed in different ways at the micro level, which can be explained through the type of dolmens. Based on the arrangement and composition, the dolmens consist of Type I, in which stone-spinned dolmens are constructed in linear cluster and non-linear cluster and Type II, consisting of linear cluster and stone-spinned dolmensm and Type III, in which non-linear dolmens and stone-spinned dolmens are constructed. Type I is interpreted as a process of reorganization of the social structure in which the emergence of new political power is differentiated through the transformation of the traditional social order represented by linear cluster, while continuously occupying the burial ceremonial space to unify the community. The spatial structure shown in Types II and III appears to be the result of reflecting the will of influential individuals or communities to maintain tradition/order and strategies for strengthening the sense of community through the construction of monuments. As such, the space for the construction of the dolmens can be viewed as a product of social action to change the initiative or renew identity while maintaining harmony with the traditional social structure. In other words, it can be said that the dialectical relationship between social structure/agency had a meaning as a place where mutual circulation occurred. As a result of the local level of visibility and network analysis, Type I was located at an advantageous point for interaction with the surrounding community and had high closeness centrality. In addition, it occupied a spatial position to control and influence the network organization at the regional level. It is presumed that they exercised the exclusive right to obtain foreign products or access information through contact with the outside, and played a role as the main agency in maintaining and leading the change of the regional community.
