조선후기 변란에서의 鄭氏 眞人 수용 과정 - 『鄭鑑錄』 탄생의 역사적 배경 - (A Study on the Process of the Jeong Family Being Accepted as Jinin in the Disturbances during Late Joseon - A historical background of Jeonggamrok -)

초록

조선후기 사상계에서 제시되었던 특이한 양상 가운데 하나로는 각종 鑑訣 사상의 성행을 들 수 있는데, 조선후기의 감결서 가운데 가장 대표적인 것이 『鄭鑑錄』이다. 역사상 『정감록』에 관한 기록이 실록에 처음으로 등장하는 것은 1739년(영조 15) 8월인데, 이후 18∼19세기에 발생한 민중저항운동 가운데 상당수의 사건들이 『정감록』의 영향 아래 일어났다. 이 논문에서는 18세기 이전에 벌어진 변란 사건을 분석하여, 그것이 鄭氏 眞人說로 귀결되면서 『정감록』으로 수용되는 과정을 밝혀보았다.
조선왕조의 건국 이래로 민간 차원에서는 鄭氏가 일어난다거나 鷄龍山에 도읍할 것이라는 讖言이 있어왔다. 이러한 참언은 변란과 결합하면서 한층 구체화되고 체계화되었는데, 16세기 말 鄭汝立의 사건이 한 계기가 되었다. 이후 17세기 전반 仁祖代까지 反왕조적 상징성을 가진 인물이나 그들의 후손을 ‘眞人’으로 내세운 각종 변란이 빈발하였다. 이러한 변란에서는 특정한 인물에 신화적인 이미지를 부가하여 진인으로 부각시키고, 干支의 조작을 통한 참언을 통해 거사를 합리화하였다.
17세기말 肅宗代 이후 18세기 전반 英祖代에 이르는 과정에서 眞人說의 주인공은 점점 鄭氏로 귀결되어 갔으며, 여러 가지 형태로 표현되던 讖書는 최종적으로 『鄭鑑錄』으로 수용되었다. 정씨가 허씨와 최씨를 제치고 진인설의 최종 대상이 된 이유는 反왕조적 상징성이 다른 성씨보다 강했기 때문으로 보인다. 그 과정에서 거사 시기나 비범한 인물의 출현 등을 예언하던 참언들은 몇 가지 讖書로 구체화되었는데, 결국 정씨 진인설과 계룡산 도읍설을 주된 내용으로 하는 『鄭鑑錄』으로 귀결되었다. 『鄭鑑錄』은 18세기 전반에 갑자기 출현한 것이 아니라, 조선 건국 이후 특히 17세기 이래의 각종 변란을 거치는 과정에서 나타났던 여러 가지 역사적 경험이 상호 작용하면서 만들어낸 결과물이었다.

영어초록

One of the unique trends that characterized the thinking community during the latter half of Choson was the prevalence of Gamgyeol ideology of all sorts. The most representative Gamgyeol book of the period was Jeonggamrok. It was in August of the 15th year of King Yeongjo's reign(1739) that its records first made into the Chronicles of Choson Dynasty. It influenced many of public resistance movements in the 18th and 19th century. This study analyzed disturbances before the 18th century and examined the process of them converging into the theory of the Jeong family as Jinin and being reflected in Jeonggamrok.
Since the foundation of Choson Dynasty, there had been prophecies predicting that the Jeong family would rise and move the capital to Mt. Gyeryong. Those prophecies combined with disturbances became much more specific and systematic. The event of Jeong Yeo-rip at the end of the 16th century created a moment. There were all kinds of disturbances putting figures with anti-royal symbolism or their descendents in the front as "Jinin" until the reign of King Injo in the former half of the 17th century. Those disturbances added a mythical image to certain figures to present them as Jinin and rationalized their revolts through prophecies based on manipulated Ganji.
The main figures of the Jinin Theory gradually converged into the Jeong family between the reign of King Sukjong at the end of the 17th century and the reign of King Yeongjo in the former half of the 18th century. Prophetic books in many different forms were reflected in Jeonggamrok. The Jeong family became the final character of the Jinin Theory instead of the Heo and Choi family because they exhibited strong anti-royal symbolism than them. In the process, prophecies predicting the time of revolt or emergence of extraordinary figure grew concrete in several prophetic books, which eventually concluded in Jeonggamrok that mainly presented the Jeong family as Jinin and talked about moving the capital to Mt. Gyeryong. Jeonggamrok did not make a sudden appearance in the former half of the 18th century but was the product of interactions among various historical experiences in the course of disturbances of all sorts since the 17th century.
