한국 핵가족의 자존감과 행복 요인에 관한 개념도 연구 (Concept Maps of the Factors Influencing Korean Nuclear Family Members’ Self-Esteem and Happiness)

초록

본 연구는 경상남도의 핵가족(직장인 아버지, 전업주부 어머니, 청소년 자녀 3인 가족) 14가구, 가족 구성원 42명에 대한 개별 면접에서 도출된 진술문들을 토대로 개념도 분석 방법(concept mapping method)을 적용하여 가족 내에서 1) 자존감을 느낄 때와, 2) 이들이 경험하는 행복의 의미를 심층적으로 이해하기 위해 수행되었다. 연구 결과, 첫 번째 질문, “가정 안에서 자존감을 느낄 때는 언제입니까?”에 대한 핵심문장은 총 160문장(아버지, 어머니 각 55개, 청소년 자녀 50개), 두 번째 질문, “가정 안에서의 행복은 어떤 것이라고 생각하십니까?”에 대한 핵심문장은 총 150개(아버지, 어머니, 청소년 자녀 각 50개씩)로 정리되었다. 핵심문장들에 대해 다차원 척도분석과 군집분석을 실시한 결과, 첫째, ‘가정 내 자존감을 느낄 때’에 대한 핵심문장은 아버지의 경우 총 3개 군집(‘자신의 의견이 존중될 때’, ‘자신의 역할을 인정받을 때’, 및 ‘자신이 기대하는 대로 자녀가 잘 따를 때’), 어머니의 경우 총 3군집(‘엄마로서의 역할을 인정받을 때’, ‘가족이 나를 인정해 줄 때’ 및 ‘남편이 인정해 줄 때’), 그리고 자녀의 경우 총 4군집(‘가족이 함께 할 때’, ‘내가 잘 했을 때’, ‘내가 존중 받을 때’ 및 ‘부모님의 인정, 칭찬을 받을 때’)으로 분류되었다. 둘째, ‘가정 내 행복의 의미’에 대한 핵심문장은 아버지의 경우 총 3군집(‘나와 가족이 탈 없이 지내는 것’, ‘가족 간 정서적 지지를 받는 것’ 및 ‘자녀가 잘 되는 것’), 어머니의 경우 총 3군집(‘가족이 화목하고 서로 존중하는 것’, ‘가족 간 원활한 소통을 하는 것’ 및 ‘자기 삶에 만족하는 것’), 그리고 청소년 자녀의 경우 2군집(‘자율성을 느끼는 것’ 및 ‘가족이 화목하고 서로 배려하는 것’)으로 분류되었다. 본 연구는 한국 핵가족이 가정이라는 맥락 속에서 어떤 때 자존감을 느끼는지, 그리고 가정에서 행복이 지니는 의미를 실제 가족 구성원들의 생생한 언어로 들어보고 이를 분류함으로써 각자의 입장 및 역할에 따른 차이점을 심도 있게 확인하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

영어초록

This study, using a concept mapping method, was conducted to achieve an in-depth understanding of Korean nuclear family members’ (i.e., a father who is a office worker, a mother who is a housekeeper, and an adolescent child) unique experiences about, (a) when each member feels having self-esteem, and (b) each member’s meaning of happiness in the family. A total of 14 nuclear family (i.e., 42 family members) who lives in Gyeongsangnam-do participated for in-depth interviews and the following task to sort and rate on their core statements with at least one-week interval between the interviews and the sorting/rating work. The main results were as follows. First, with regards to the first focus question (when do you feel having self-esteem in your family?), a total of 160 core statements (55 items for both the father and mother and 50 for the child) were reported, which consisted of 3 clusters for the father (i.e., ‘when the family respects him’, ‘when the family recognizes his role as a father/house head, and ’when his child meets his expectations’), 3 clusters for the mother (i.e., ‘when the family recognizes her role as a mother’, ‘when the family recognizes her as a person’, and ‘when her husband recognizes her’) and 4 clusters for the child (i.e., ‘when the family members get together’, ‘when himself/herself did well’, ‘when he/she is respected by his/her family’, and ‘when his/her parents recognizes/praises him/her’). Second, regarding the second focus question (what do you think of the meaning of happiness in your family?), a total of 150 core statements (50 items for each members of the nuclear family) were reported, which contained 3 clusters for the father (i.e., ‘well-being of myself and my family’, ‘emotional support among the family members’, and ‘well-being and success of the child’), 3 clusters for the mother (i.e., ‘harmony and mutual respect among the family members’, ‘smooth communications in the family’, and ‘life satisfaction of each member’) and 2 clusters for the child (i.e., ‘a sense of autonomy’, and ‘harmony and care in the family’). This study offers implications in that it delved into the Korean nuclear family members’ unique perspectives on the factors influencing their self-esteem and happiness in their family by listening to their subjective experiences through in-depth interviews as well as their own classification of the core statements.
