노인의 죽음불안과 자아통합감 간 영적 안녕감의 매개효과 - 기독교인과 비종교인과의 비교를 중심으로 - (The mediating effect of spiritual well-being between death anxiety and the elderly’s ego integrity: Based on the comparison between Christians and no religion.)

초록

본 연구는 노인의 죽음불안으로 인해 낮아질 수 있는 자아통합감을 높일 수 있는 기제로서, 종교적 영적 안녕감과 실존적 영적 안녕감과 같은 매개요인을 기독교인과 비종교인으로 구분하여 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 경기도 남부에 위치한 노인복지관 등을 이용하는 60세 이상의 노인 325명을 대상으로 분석에 활용하였다. 분석을 위해 SPSS 21.0을 이용하였으며, sobel-test 값을 제시하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 기독교인이나 비종교인 모두에서, 죽음과정불안은 노인의 자아통합감을 낮추는 예측요인임을 확인하였다. 둘째, 기독교인은 존재상실불안과 사후결과불안이 자아통합감에 영향을 미친 반면, 비종교인은 영향이 없게 나타났다. 셋째, 기독교인 경우, 사후결과불안이 종교적 영적 안녕감에 영향을 보인 반면, 비종교인은 죽음불안의 모든 하위요인들이 영향을 보이지 않았다. 또한 기독교인의 경우, 존재상실불안과 사후결과불안이 실존적 영적 안녕감에 영향요인인 반면, 비종교인 경우에는 죽음불안의 하위요인 모두가 영향이 없게 나타났다. 넷째, 기독교인 경우, 노인의 종교적 영적 안녕감은 사후결과불안과 자아통합감 간을 매개하였으며, 실존적 영적 안녕감은 존재상실불안과 자아통합감, 그리고 사후결과불안과 자아통합감 간을 매개하였다. 반면, 비종교인 경우, 종교적 영적 안녕감이나 실존적 안녕감은 죽음불안 하위요인들과 자아통합감 간을 매개하지 않았다. 본 연구결과를 통해 기독교인 경우, 종교적 영적 안녕감이나 실존적 안녕감 등을 통해 존재상실이나 사후결과에 대한 불안으로 낮아진 자아통합감을 잘 형성할 수 있도록 매개한다는 점에서 비종교인과 차이가 있다. 또한 비종교인들은 믿음과 같은 가치들을 자기 자신과 지역사회, 그리고 환경과 상호작용을 통해 실현하는데, 이들 간의 상호작용이 줄어드는 은퇴 이후 노년기에 비종교인들은 죽음불안이 영적 안녕감이나 자아통합감 그리고 죽음불안이 영적 안녕감 등에 아무런 영향력을 발휘하지 못한다는 점에서 차이가 있는 것으로 볼 수 있었다. 본 연구는 이론적 측면에서, 노인의 죽음불안으로 인해 그들의 자아통합감이 낮아질 수 있는 상황에서 종교인의 경우에 종교적 및 실존적 영적 안녕감과 같은 매개요인을 찾아냈다는 측면에서 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to verify sthe mediating effect of religious spiritual well-being and existential spiritual well-being separately from Christians and non-religious people, which can be lowered due to death anxiety of the elderly. For the purpose, this study extracted 325 people aged 60 years or older who used the welfare center for the elderly located in southern of Kyunggi-do. SPSS 21.0 and Sobel-test was methodologically performed to verify the effect. The results were as follows: (1) Both Christians and non-religious people have confirmed that death process anxiety is a predictor of lowering ego integrity among the elderly. (2) While Christians showed anxiety about loss of existence and anxiety about consequences after death affected ego integrity, non-religious people showed no impact. (3) In the case of Christians, anxiety about consequences after death affected religious spiritual well-being, while nonreligious people showed no effect on all the subcomponents of death anxiety. In addition, in the case of Christians, loss of existence and anxiety about consequences after death are factors that influence existential spiritual well-being, while in the case of non-religious people, all sub-factors of death anxiety were found to be unaffected. In this study, Christians differ from non-religious people in that they are mediated to form the ego integrity that has been reduced due to loss of existence or anxiety about consequences after death through religious spiritual or existential well-being. Non-religious people also realize values such as faith through interaction with themselves, communities and the environment, and in their post-retirement, non-religious people could see differences in that death anxiety had no influence on spiritual well-being, ego integrity. In the theoretical sense, this study had significance in terms of finding such intermediaries as religious and existential spiritual well-being in the case of religious people in a situation where their sense of self-integration can be reduced due to death anxiety of the elderly.
