중국학 관점에서 본 『한국문집총간』 (The Anthology of Korean Classics viewed from Sinology’s Angle)

초록

자국의 문학을 배우는 학생들마저 외국문학에 눈을 돌리고 있는 것이 오늘날의 세계적인 추세이다. 북경대학 중문과 또한 예외가 아니다. 중문과 교과과정을 분석해보면, ‘중국문학과 세계문학’이라는 세부전공과 관련 외국문학에 많은 관심을 기울이고 있다. 미국·영국·프랑스·독일 등 구미문학과 관련된 강좌가 이미 개설되어 있고, 일본의 경우도 ‘日本中國學名著導讀’이라는 강좌가 개설되어 있다. 그런데 한국문학과 관련된 강좌는 없다. 한국은 지정학적으로 중국과 국경을 맞대고 있는 이웃나라이다. 이런 이유로 한국과 중국은 예나 지금이나 정치·경제·문화·예술·교육 등 제 분야에 걸쳐 교류가 매우 활발한 편이다. 중국 유학생을 보더라도 유학생의 과반수이상이 한국학생일 정도이다. 북경대학 중문과 교과과정의 변화추세와 양국간의 교류 상황을 고려해 볼 때, 중국에서의 한국문학 관련 교과과정 개발은 반드시 이루어져야 할 시급한 과제임이 분명하다.
『韓國文集叢刊』은 한국정부 지원 하에 민족문화추진회에서 1987년부터 해마다 20책씩 간행하고 있는 한국의 주요 古典籍을 종합적이고 체계적으로 집대성한 방대한 한문자료집이다. 이 자료집 속에는 중국문학을 연구하는 데 도움이 될 만한 비평자료가 많다. 게다가 한자로 표기되어 있어 16억 인구의 한자문화권에 쉽게 진입할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 『한국문집총간』의 이러한 특성으로 인해 이 자료집을 활용하여 만든 책자가 북경대학에서 연구 자료로 활용된다면 학생과 연구자들에게 좋은 반응을 얻게 될 것으로 기대된다. 문학을 예로 들면, 해외에서 바라본 중국문학, 중국문학이 한국문학에 끼친 영향 등 한중비교문학연구에 적지 않은 도움이 될 것이다. 특히 외국에서 보는 중국문학비평론을 통해 중국 연구자들이 중국문학을 객관적으로 바라볼 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것으로도 보인다. 한국의 경우, 수준 높은 詩文을 통해 한국문인들의 우수성을 중국에 알릴 수 있는 계기가 마련될 것이다. 확장된 논리로 『한국문집총간』 속에서의 중국문헌·양국문인교류·『사기』 『한서』를 중심으로 한 역사 등 중국학 전반에 걸쳐 논의해 볼 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

It is a world-wide trend today that even those students majoring in the literature of their native lands are increasingly turning their sight to the literature of other countries. The Dept. of Chinese Language and Literature at Peking University (PKU) is no exception. An analysis of the department’s curriculum reveals that much effort is being invested in the development of courses in the literature of other countries, as evidenced in the existence of areas of specialisation such as “Chinese Literature and World Literatures”. Courses are offered on the literatures of the U.S. and of European countries such as Britain, France and Germany. There is also a course on Japan entitled “Guided Reading of Renowned Sinological Works in Japan”. However, none are offered on the literature of Korea. Korea is a neighbouring country of China that shares a common border. Due to this geographical proximity Korea and China have carried on extensive exchanges in the political, economic, cultural, artistic and educational realms since time immemorial. This trend has continued to the present to the extent that over half of all foreign students currently attending school in China come from the Republic of Korea. Given the timely changes in the curriculum of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of PKU and the sheer scale of mutual exchanges between China and Korea, it is imperative that a curriculum for the teaching of Korean literature in China be devised as soon as possible.


The Anthology of Korean Classics is a collection of major traditional Korean literary, historical and philosophical works written in classical Chinese that have been systematically organized and compiled by the Korean Classics Research Institute, with funding provided by the Korean government. Since 1987, the Institute has published 20 volumes of the anthology annually. Much critical material that provide key insights into the study of things Chinese are found in the anthology which can claim as an additional advantage the fact that its contents are written in classical Chinese, the common written language of 16 billion people in the Chinese cultural sphere. Such characteristics of The Anthology of Korean Classics make credible the conjecture that using research materials for Peking University students and researchers based on its rich contents will prove to be a huge success. To mention an example of literature, the project will benefit studies of Chinese literature outside of China and studies on the influence of Chinese literature on Korean literature, as well as the overall comparative study of Korean and Chinese literatures. It will also provide a good opportunity for Chinese scholars of Chinese literature to assess Chinese literature from an objective perspective through critical works on Chinese literature from abroad. For Koreans, it will provide the means to let Chinese scholarship know of the excellence of the poetry and prose written in classical Chinese by Korean writers of the past. The Sinology(Chinese publications, the cultual exchange between Korea and China, criticism on ‘Document of Chinese History: shiji’ ‘A History of Han Dynasty: Hanshu’, etc.) within The Anthology of Korean Classics may be assessed in a similar but expanded manner.
