고려 후기 각범혜홍 시문 저작의 수용 (The Acceptance of Juefan Huihong(覺範慧洪) Poems in the Late Goryeo Period)

초록

고려후기에 선종이 불교계를 주도하면서 시문을 매개로 사대부 문인과 선승들이 교유하는 현상이 성행했다. 이러한 양상은 소식, 황정견을 중심으로 한 송의 시문이 고려 선문과 문인계층에 폭넓게 수용되면서 전개되었다. 그런데 소식, 황정견의 시문과 작시법이 고려에 수용되는 과정에서 각범혜홍의 시문 저작이 매개 역할을 한 것이 주목된다.
각범은 임제종 황룡파의 선승이며 선림승보전 을 비롯한 다양한 선적을 남겼다. 그런데 각범의 저작은 선적보다 석문문자선 , 냉재야화 와 같은 시문집, 시화집이 동아시아 사상계에 폭넓은 영향을 미쳤다. 이러한 저작을 통해 각범은 소식, 황정견의 시문을 가장 많이 제시하고, 환골탈태론을 비롯한 황정견의 작시법을 탁월하게 해설했다. 이러한 작시법은 송 대에 타자의 작품과 문장을 자신의 것으로 바꾸어 재생하는 방법이 성행한 것과 관련된다.
고려후기 문인과 선승들은 소식, 황정견을 중심으로 한 송의 시문을 수용하고, 그들의 작시법으로부터 깊은 영향을 받았다. 냉재야화 를 비롯한 각범의 저작은 이러한 송 대 시문의 수용, 선종문화의 전개와 관련된다. 자료의 한계가 있지만, 문인과 선승들은 각범의 저작을 통해 소식, 황정견의 작시법을 수용하고 이해했던 것으로 보인다. 이러한 경향은 소상팔경시에서 드러나듯이 시와 문인화, 글씨까지 포괄하는 양상으로 이어졌다.
한편, 선문에서 시문이 성행한 것은 공안선의 유행과 관련되지만, 점차 공안 비평과 무관한 문인문화로서 확산되었다. 이러한 경향은 고려 말에 이르러 선종이 세속화되면서 점차 쇠퇴하는 양상과 관련된다. 아울러 선의 제도화라는 전반적인 흐름과 함께 선의 생명력이 점차 퇴락하는 경향을 보여준다.

영어초록

In the late Goryeo Dynasty, as the Zen sect led the Buddhist world, the phenomenon of literati scholars and Zen monks interacting through poetry became prevalent. This development was accompanied by the trend that the poetry and prose of the Song, centered around Su-Shi[蘇軾] and Huang TingJian[黃庭堅], were widely accepted by the Zen sect and literary class of the Goreyo dynasty. It is noteworthy that Juefan Huigong[覺範慧洪]'s poetry writings played a mediating role in the process of acceptance of Su-Shi and Huang TingJian's poetry and their writing methods into Goryeo.
Juefan, a Zen monk of the Huanglong sect[黃龍派], left behind various Zen text, including Chanlinsengbaochuan[禪林僧寶傳] . An emphasis needs to be placed on the fact that Juefan's works such as ShimenWenziChan[石門文字禪] and Lengzhaiyehua[冷齋夜話] , which are a collection of poems and a kind of critique of collected poems respectively, had a wider influence on the East Asian world of thought than his Zen text did. Juefan’s literary collections presented poetry produced in the period of Song dynasty with a focus on Su-Shi’s and Huang TingJian's poems. Especially, in Lengzhaiyehua[冷齋夜話], Juefan, illustrated Huang TingJian's writing methods in an excellent way, which can be epitomized by his theory of huan gu tuo tai(換骨奪胎). This method of poetry writing is related to the prevalence of the method of representing others' exemplary works and sentences by integrating them into one's own during the Song Dynasty.
The writers and Zen monks of the late Goryeo Dynasty accepted the poetry of Song centered on Su-Shi and Huang TingJian’s work and were deeply influenced by their writing style. Juefan's works, including Lengzhaiyehua , are closely associated with the acceptance of poetry of the Song Dynasty and the development of Zen culture. Although historical sources available to now are limited, it appears that the writers and Zen monks accepted and made sense of the methods of poetry writing of Su-Shi and those of Huang TingJian through Juefan's writings. This trend continued to encompass poetry, literary paintings, and calligraphy, as revealed in the Xiaoxiang poetry of Eight Scenery[瀟湘八景詩].
While the prevalence of poetry in Zen literature has something to do with the popularity of Gongan Zen, it gradually spread as a literary culture that is distinct from a sphere of the Gongan criticism. This trend can be attributed to the gradual decline of Zen Buddhism as it became secularized toward the end of the Goryeo Dynasty. In addition, it shows a tendency for the vitality of Zen to gradually decline along with the overall trend of institutionalization of Zen.
