초록

이 논문은 소설 「소설가 구보씨의 일일」과 연극 <소설가 구보씨의 1일>을 비교해 서사, 언어, 매체적 특성을 분석하였다. 텍스트 해석의 초점을 ‘산책’에서 ‘대화’로 확장해, 구보씨를 중심으로 한 작품 내적 대화를 살펴보는 한편 작품 밖에서는 상이한 두 장르의 구보 텍스트 간 대화적 관계에서 원작자와 극작가의 대화, 연출가와 관객의 대화에 주목했다.
첫째, 서사적 특성으로 소설에서 주인공 구보의 기록이 곧 ‘창작노트’라면, 연극은 박태원까지 등장인물로 끌어들여 소설가의 일상과 창작 과정을 보여주는 ‘다큐멘터리’ 형식이다. 이중 무대와 영상을 통해 산책자가 걷는 경성의 이미지를 후경으로 제공하고, 대화 장면을 무대 중앙의 전경에 배치했다. 식민지 근대 도시의 고현학으로 독자들의 해석을 촉발하는 원작을 계승하면서, 의미 구성과 과정성을 강조해 관객들의 적극적 해석을 유도하는 열린 연극의 소리 없는 대화에 주목해야 한다.
둘째, 언어적 특성은 원작자 박태원과 각색자 성기웅의 공통점인 언어탐구와 서울말에 대한 애정에 기원한다. 30년대 경성말 복원과 다중언어적 상황 재현으로 관객들이 직접 체험하게 만든다. 또 원작이 독자들의 자동화된 독서를 방해하는 콤마로 ‘낯설게 하기’ 효과를 유도하는 것처럼 소설 문장을 낭독하는 연극 대사는 관객들의 자연스런 몰입을 방해한다. 성기웅은 원작을 변용한 형식 실험으로 서사와 극의 경계를 해체한다. 셋째, 소설의 모더니즘 기법과 무대와 영상을 결합한 다원예술의 매체 전략에 주목했다. 과거와 현재를 오가는 소설의 오버랩 수법을 연극은 이중 무대와 영상 처리로 변용하였다. 또한 영화의 몽타쥬와 꼴라쥬 기법을 차용한 원작처럼 무대 위에선 극적 갈등 없는 장면의 연속, 무대 뒤에선 이미지, 음악, 영화 장면 삽입과 같은 하이퍼텍스트적 기법을 활용하였다.

영어초록

This paper analyzed narrative, language, and media characteristics by comparing the novel "A day in the life of Gubo the Novelist" with the play "1 day in the life of Gubo the Novelist". This article extends the focus of text interpretation from walking to conversation. While looking at the inner conversation focused on Gubo, and focused on the dialogue between the original author and the playwright, the director and the audience's dialogue in a conversational relationship between two different genres of Gubo texts.
First, in terms of Narrative characteristic, if the record of the protagonist Gubo in the novel is 'Creative Notes', the drama is a documentary that shows the novelist's daily life and creative process. Through the dual stage and video, the play provide the image of Kyungsung by the Flàneur’s view, and the dialogue scene was placed in the foreground of the stage center. This play inherited the original work that led to the interpretation of the readers about the colonial modern city. And We should pay attention to the silent conversation of the open drama that leads to the active interpretation of the audience emphasizing the composition of meaning and process, Second, in terms of linguistic characteristics, the common feature of the original author and the playwrigh is the love for the language exploration and the Seoul-style speech. The restoration of the Kyungsung language in the 1930s and the reproduction of the multilingual situation make the audience experience it. And the dialogue of plays interferes with the natural immersion of the audience as the original work led to the defamiliarization as a comma that hinder readers' automated reading. The dramatist deconstructs the boundaries between narrative and drama with a formative experiment that transforms the original.
Third, In terms of media characteristics, focused on the novel strategy of modernism, the media strategy of multi-arts that combines stage and visuals. Overlapping techniques of novels that go back and forth between the past and the present are transformed into dual stages and image processing. The original work borrowed the montage of film and the collage technique of art. On the other hand, In the adaptive flay, on the stage was a series of scenes without dramatic conflicts, and a hypertextual technique such as the insertion of images, music, and movie scenes behind the scenes.
