서사학적 기준을 적용한 리노베이션 유형 구분 (Template of Archives of Design Research)

초록

연구배경 오늘날 행해지고 리노베이션은 일반적으로 경제적인 이유 또는 그 밖의 형태적인개선 등에 의한 것이 대부분이었지만 현대의 리노베이션의 양상 중에는 오래된 건물을 재사용함에 있어서 비용이 더 들더라도 의미적인 부분을 유지하기 위해 낡은 요소를 남기거나새것을 의도적으로 낡게 만들어 재현하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 논문은 이러한 흐름을 통해단순히 비용이나 물리적인 이유에서 그저 방치된 공간을 단순히 재활용하는 것이라고 볼 수없었다고 여겨져 이러한 리노베이션이 갖는 의미적인 관점에 초점을 맞춰서 현재 행해지는리노베이션이 어떠한 패턴으로 이루어지고 있는지에 대해 밝히고 향후에 이루어질 리노베이션의 기준을 제시하고자 하였다.
연구방법 본 연구에서는 리노베이션이 이루어지는 과정을 구조주의 관점에서 바라보고 서사학이라는 학문을 도입하여 체계화 하였다. 좀 더 구체적으로 미케발의 서사구조인 파블라( Fabla), 스토리(Story), 텍스트(Text) 3요소를 통하여 리노베이션의 과정을 6가지로 유형화하였고 다이어그램을 통해 시각화하였다. 유형화된 6가지 요소들은 국내외 역사적으로 보존가치가 있는 건물들로 리노베이션 된 사례들을 중심으로 대입하였고, 분석 방법에 있어서는 추출된 6가지의 요소들이 갖는 특징을 통해 구체화 시킬 수 있었다.
연구결과 리노베이션 사례를 추출된 다이어그램에 대입하여 분석한 결과 총 5가지로 분류할 수 있었다. 구조와 역사, 기능과 상징, 그리고 연출과 경험이라는 요소들은 파블라, 스토리, 텍스트라는 구분이 있지만 상호적인 관계에 놓여 있으므로 대입하는 과정에서 여러 가지 형태로 분류가 가능하였다. 사람들이 과거의 공간을 찾게 될 때 얻고자 하는 ‘과거의 경험’을 하고자 하는 흐름으로 인해 과거의 모습을 최대한 지키며 현대적인 디자인이 이루어짐을 알 수 있었고 옛 모습을 지키지 않았다면 과거의 상징적인 것들을 재현하여 사람들로하여금 경험할 수 있게 하였다.
결론 본 논문은 바로 이와 같이 행해지는 리노베이션이 갖는 인지적인 관점에 대해 초점을맞춰서 리노베이션이 어떤 패턴으로 이루어지고 있는지를 밝히고 향후 리노베이션의 참고점으로 사용하고자함이다. 뿐만 아니라 디자인에 서사학을 접목시킨 연구로서 디자인의 다양성을 제시하고자 하는데 의의가 있다.

영어초록

Background Most of renovations that are being conducted nowadays have beeninitiated generally for economic reasons and other improvements but still, regardinghow those renovations would go, people try to reuse old buildings to maintain somemeaningful factors from the past even if it would cost them more money. In orderto protect the meanings of the buildings and everything, people would still leave olddesigns as they are or make new designs look old on purpose. The thesis believed thatthe renovation was not merely a simple process of reusing neglected spaces only becauseof costs or physical reasons, so as a result, it focused meaningful viewpoints that therenovation would stand for to understand how the renovation is being conducted in themodern times. Afterwards, the study proposed renovation standards that would be usedin the future.
Methods This study examined the process of renovation from the viewpoint ofstructuralism and systemized it by adopting narratology. More specifically, based onMieke Bal’s three elements of narrative structure – fabla, story, text –the process ofrenovation was classified into five types, which were visualized in a diagram. The fiveclassified types were analyzed by assigning renovation cases in Korea and elsewhere. Asa result, it was shown that renovation was not only achieved from a physical perspectivesuch as the form or material, but it also emphasizes the semantic aspect.
Results Renovation examples were substituted to a selected diagram, and according tothe results, the examples were categorized into five groups. Regarding those factors as astructure, history, functions and symbols and lastly, direction and experience, they wouldbe divided into fabula, story and text but still, since they were all connected to eachother, during the substitution, they were categorized into various forms. When peopletry to find old spaces in their past, they mostly want to have this 'experiences in the past'again with them. That is why they did the renovation while not only did they protect thepast as much as possible but also fulfilled the contemporary designs at the same time. Ifthey had not preserved the past, they have reproduced any symbolic factors from the pastso that other people could experience the past once again in their lifetime.
Conclusion This paper will focus on the cognitive perspective of renovation to use it asa reference point for renovation in the future. In addition, it is meaningful as it attemptsto suggest diversity of design by combining narratology with design.
