초록

학문이 생명력을 지니려면 역사의식과 함께 현실인식을 갖추고 상아탑의 학문에서 시계탑, 감시탑, 조명탑의 학문으로 나아가야 한다. 외국학문 인용주의를 극복하고 자문화를 독창적으로 읽는 통찰력을 발휘함으로써 학문주권을 확립할 수 있어야, 세계화시대이자 문화의 세기에 부응하는 민속학을 개척할 수 있다. 세계화는 서구화가 아니라 세계 각국이 유기적 관계를 이루는 것이라는 현실인식 아래, 세계사의 흐름을 통시적으로 포착하고 문화의 세기를 포착해야 미래의 전망을 정확하게 제시하는 민속학이 가능하다.
통시적으로 보면 세계사는 두 갈래의 흐름 속에 있다. 영역 중심으로 지방화시대에서 국가화시대, 세계화시대로 나아왔으며, 국제관계 중심으로 무력전쟁의 시대에서 무역경쟁의 시대, 문화교류의 시대로 나아왔다. 따라서 21세기를 세계화시대 또는 문화의 세기로 자리매김하는 것이다. 문화가 세계화되려면 자문화의 정체성을 확보해야 하는 것처럼, 학문이 세계화되려면 학국학으로서 정체성을 확립하고 질적으로 높은 수준의 학문적 독창성을 발휘해야 한다. 그것은 곧 문화주권과 학문주권을 확보하는 일이다.
문화주권은 자문화로서 정체성이 뚜렷한 민속문화가 확보해 주는 것이며, 학문주권은 자기 사회의 민속현상을 귀납적으로 해석하고 일반화 가능한 민속학 논리를 개척할 때 확보되는 것이다. 민속학은 현장학과 전통학, 민중학의 특징을 살려 문화주권론을 펼침으로서 스스로 학문주권을 확립해야 세계화된다. 현장학으로서 민속학은 현재 세계화 수준의 한류문화를 자문화의 논리로 해명하고, 미래의 문화적 전망도 제시할 수 있어야 한다. 그러한 전망은 비판적 현실인식에서 출발한다.
현실은 생태위기 속에 놓여 있다. 이 위기는 세계화나 문화로 극복할 수 없으므로 생태주의로 나아가야 한다. 따라서 20세기의 경제주의와 21세기의 문화주의에서 22세기의 생태주의 체제를 표방하는 것이 민속학의 전망이다. 민속문화는 자연친화적인 생태문화로서 지속 가능한 미래의 대안문화로 제기되고 있으며, 문화되돌이 현상이 그러한 문화적 가치를 입증하고 있다. 그러므로 민속학은 현실 체제의 모순을 극복하고 대안문화를 제시하는 미래학문으로서 입지를 전망하지 않을 수 없다.
한국 민속학의 세계화는 한국학으로서 질적 수준을 확보하는 데서 출발한다. 해외학계와 횡적 교류가 아니라 한국 민속학으로서 독창성을 발휘하여 학문주권을 누리게 되면 세계화는 자연스레 이루어진다. 민속연구를 통해 문화주권 이론을 확대시킨 것이 학문주권론이다. 민속학이 문화주권을 의식하고 학문주권을 자각하며 한국학으로서 독자성을 추구할 때 한국 민속학은 세계화 수준을 밝게 전망할 수 있다.

영어초록

In order for a field of study to be revitalized, the applicable academic circle will need to be equipped with consciousness of the reality along with historical sense, and evolve the vision of the study from an image of ivory tower to that of monitor or enlightenment. Also the academic circle will need to establish the academic sovereignty by overcoming the extravagantly widespread practices of quoting overseas academic circles and demonstrating the insight to read the native culture uniquely in order to develop the folk study of this nation Korea that complies with the global era and culture century. To that end, the academic circle will need to capture the flow of the world history and culture and ultimately propose the future prospect precisely under the recognition of the reality that globalization is not westernization but the formation of organic relations among each country of the world.
In diachronical perspective, the world history has progressed in two directions. In area perspective, it has evolved from localizing era to nationalizing era and globalizing era, and in international relations, it moved from an era of military war to an era of trading competition and an era of cultural exchange. Therefore, the 21st century is establishing itself as an era of globalization and cultural promotion. Just as globalization of cultural promotion requires acquisition of the nation’s own identity, globalization of the Korean folk study requires establishment of identity as a nation, and demonstration of the academic uniqueness with high quality, ultimately acquiring the cultural sovereignty and academic sovereignty.
Cultural sovereignty is when folk culture is established with clear identity as the nation’s native culture, and academic sovereignty is when the academic circle excavates the logic of the folk study that can interpret and generalize the society’s own folk phenomena. The folk study can be globalized only when cultural sovereignty and thus academic sovereignty are exercised with the characteristics of field study, tradition study and populace study enhanced. The folk study as field study should be able to clarify the ‘Hanryu’ Korean wave culture of globalized level and also the cultural prospect of the future with the logic of the nation’s own culture. Such prospect begins from the critical recognition of the reality.
Since the reality lies in ecological risks, and such risks put obstacle to globalization or cultural promotion, the folk study should pursue ecology. Therefore, the folk study is anticipated to pursue ecology in the 21st century when it pursued economy and culturalism in the 20th century. Folk culture is proposed as an eco-friendly sustainable form of future alternative culture, and cultural reversion phenomenon is proving such cultural value. Therefore, the Korean folk study is desired to cope with the contraditions of reality system and pursue future oriented study.
The globalization of the Korean folk study begins from acquiring the qualitative standard as the study of Korea. Once this field of study accomplishes to relish the academic sovereignty by demonstrating the uniqueness as the study of Korea rather than through horizontal exchanges with overseas academic circles, then globalization will come naturally. The academic sovereignty of the Korean folk study is to extend the theories of cultural sovereignty through the folk study. The Korean folk study will be able to prospect brighter future for globalization when the academic circle gains consciousness of cultural sovereignty and academic sovereignty and pursue the uniqueness as the study of Korea.
