초록

이 글은 대한민국(R.O.K)의 해금작가 명단에 있는 두 명의 월북 여성작가, 지하련과 이선희의 해방직후를 추적한다. 이들은 분단문학의 극명한 일례인 ‘6·25 이전 A급 월북자’로 판금되었지만, 여성작가라는 규정으로 인해, 해방과 분단, 그리고 전쟁 등 한반도의 정치적 상황과는 별 관련 없이 논해졌다. 그러나 이선희와 지하련의 해방기 소설 「창」과 「도정」은 그들의 특장인 식민지 모더니티를 반영하는 신여성의 자기서사가 아니라, 석재와 사백이라는 남성 주인공을 내세워 남한의 공산당 재건과 북한의 토지개혁 실시를 정확히 다루고 있다.
이 글은 지하련과 이선희를 여성작가에서 다시 월북작가라는 일방으로 조정하거나, 혹은 여성작가이면서 월북작가라는 이중의 한계만을 강조하지 않는다. 대신 해방직후 그들이 좌파로 전신(轉身)했던 활약의 과정과 그 침묵의 결과를, 식민지 언론장에서 주조되었던 여류문단의 영향과 이후 형성될 반공국가의 검열효과와 더불어 맥락화하고자 했다. 다시 말해 지하련과 이선희 연구에서 비교적 소략화되었던 해방기 행적을 되도록 재구하면서, 좌우분기의 냉전전야에서 그들로 인해 잠시나마 가능했던 탈식민기 좌파 여성작가라는 존재를 가시화할 것이다.
또한 이글은 그들의 해방기 유일한 소설이자 마지막 작품이었을 「창」과 「도정」을 당대의 진보적 리얼리즘과 혁명적 로맨티시즘의 전형이 아니라, 오히려 그를 배반하는 작품이라고 읽는다. 다시 말해 이 두 소설 모두는 남과 북 모두에서 좌파가 승기를 잡았을 때, 그에 대한 비판적인 주장을 가졌던 좌우간의 서사에 가까웠던 것이다. 여기에서 배타적인 좌우구분에서 소위 리얼리즘계의 대표로 이선희와 지하련의 작품이 자리매김되었던 과정 자체를 보이고자 했다. 이는 월북이라는 결과적인 지리적 행위에 따라 한 작가를, 또는 한 작품을 긍정이든 부정이든 하나로만 이해했던 인식을 재고하고자 하는 것이다. 이 글은 이선희와 지하련의 해방기 궤적과 그들이 남긴 마지막 작품이었을 「창」과 「도정」이 좌우이념이 분화되는 과정에 필히 동반되었을 곤란과 균열의 맥락을 드러내고 있다고 주장한다.

영어초록

Ji Ha-ryun and Lee Sun-hee are the two female writers defected from South Korea, who are on the list of formerly banned writers of the Republic of Korea. The works of these two writers, definite representatives of division literature classified as 'A level defectors before the 6.25', were prohibited of sale.
However, at the same time, due to the classification as a female writer, their works were discussed without specific connection to the political condition of the Korean Peninsula, such as liberation, division or war. In other words, they were primarily read as self-narratives of a New Women in relation with colonial modernity. Meanwhile, their novels of liberation period, 「Path(Dojeong)」 and 「Window(Chang)」, written with a male main character, are exceptional.
This writing does not unilaterally define Ji Ha-ryun and Lee Sun-hee as female writers or defectors to North Korea. Nor does it emphasize the double limitation of being both female writer and defector writer. It simply intends to examine the process and result of their conversion into leftist, right after the liberation. Thus, it attempts to comprehend the above subject along with the effect of female literary world, created from the colonial journalism and mass media, and the effect of anticommunist nationalism, which was to be established afterward.
That is to say, their activities and whereabouts during the liberation period demonstrates an identity of a leftist female writer. This was temporarily observed before the ideological cold war in the period of division into left and right. Nevertheless, their works, 「Window(Chang)」 and 「Path(Dojeong)」 do not fit to the frames of progressive realism or revolutionary romanticism. Rather, they are more close to a narrative in between.
This writing intends to trace the works and activities of Ji Ha-ryun and Lee Sun-hee during liberation period, who had both converted to leftist female writer. Yet, it attempts to comprehend the narratives of 「Window(Chang)」 and 「Path(Dojeong)」 apart from the exclusive separation between left and right. This is to criticize the perception that tries to comprehend the lives and works of Lee Sun-hee and Ji Ha-ryun lopsidedly at an extreme, whether positive or negative, due to the resultive geographical migration act, which is referred to as defection to North Korea,
