현재 우리나라에서 사용되고 한자의 해서체는 오랜 기간 동안의 규범화과정 을 거쳐 정리된 것이기는 하나, 그 학습과 운용에 있어서는 여전히 적지 않은 문제점들이 존재하고 있으며, 그 중 하나가 개별 자소의 변이형태가 워낙 많이 존재한다는 점이다. 한자는 隸變 이후 자형 자체의 象意性은 어쩔 수없이 훼손 되어 개별 자소들이 符號化되긴 하였지만, 대부분은 여전히 義符 혹은 音符로 서의 기능을 유지하고 있는데 비해, 사용위치 혹은 결합대상이나 방법에 따라 전혀 다른 형태로 나타나는 경우가 많다는 것이다. 이러한 현상들은 한자의 학습 및 운용과정에서 봉착하게 되는 난제들 가운데 해결하기가 가장 까다로운 문제라 아니할 수 없을 것이다. 본고는 필자가 그간 개인적으로 관심을 갖고 진행해 온 일련의 자소 관련 작업 중의 하나로, 고문자 계통에서의 특정한 자소의 자형이 예서를 거쳐 해서체 자형으로 정착하는 과정 에서 두 개 이상의 자형으로 나타나는 경우 혹은 생략된 경우의 자소들을 대상 으로 하여, 그 변이형태를 분석·정리하여 그 규율을 모색하는데 일차적인 목적 이 있다. 본고에서는 필획화 과정에서의 자소 변이형태를 그 유형별로 정리하여 크게 省略·異化·同化 등의 세 가지로 귀납시켰으며, 생략과 이화는 대개 개별자소 자 체의 결구간화·混淆로 인한 訛變 또는 자소끼리의 粘合 과정에서 발생하는 것 이었고, 동화는 생략과 이화의 결과로서 발생한 것이었다. 또한 이들 유형을 세 분하여, ‘생략’은 ‘개별자소의 생략 또는 개별자소의 일부분 생략’과 ‘중첩자소 의 생략’ 두 부분으로 나누고, ‘이화’는 ‘개별자소의 단순변이’·‘자소끼리의 점합 으로 인한 변이’·‘자소의 결합위치에 따른 변이’ 등 세부분으로 나누어 그 例字 들을 제시하였으며, ‘동화’는 다시 ‘기존의 특정자형으로 類化’되는 경우와 ‘예 변 이후 기존에 없었던 새로운 자형으로 나타나는 동형화’ 등 두 가지로 나누어 분석하였다.

영어 초록

The Chinese standard script currently used in Korea has been arranged through a long period of standardization, but there are still many problems with its learning and operation. One of them is the huge number of variant forms of individual graphemes. The differences in forms of Chinese characters were damaged after changes to the clerical script, which encoded individual graphemes. But most of them still maintain their functions as the meaning or sound parts. The problem is that they take completely different forms according to the positions where they are used, what they combine with, and methods in many cases. Those phenomena make the most demanding problems to address of the difficult issues rising in the process of learning and operating Chinese characters. This study is part of a series of works on graphemes that the investigator has taken interest in and carried out. Its primary purpose was to analyze and sort out variant forms of certain graphemes in the ancient character family as they have two or more forms of characters or get to be omitted in the process of settling down as the forms of characters of the standard script after the clerical script in order to find some rules. In the study, the variant forms of characters in the process of changes to strokes were divided into three major patterns, which are omission, changes to same-form, and changes to different-form. Omission and changes to different-form happened in the process of Simplification of individual graphemes, False exchange caused by mixture, and fusion of graphemes. And changes to same-form were the result of omission and changes to different-form. Those patterns were further divided; 'omission' was divided into 'omission of individual graphemes or partial omission of individual graphemes' and 'omission of overlapping graphemes'; 'changes to different-form' into 'simple changes of individual graphemes,' 'changes by the fusion of graphemes' and 'changes according to the combination positions of graphemes' with examples provided; and 'changes to same-form' into 'analogy into the certain original forms of characters' and 'changes to same-form with new forms of characters not existent since changes to the clerical script.'
