초록

본 연구는 기독교인 부인들에 대한 결혼만족도에 어떤 요인들이 영향을 미치는가에 대하여 조사를 하였다. 지금까지의 결혼만족도와 관련된 연구를 중심으로 여러 변수 중 수입, 학력, 배우자 직업, 결혼지속년수, 결혼생활의 결정권, 가사분담, 가족과의 관계, 배우자 가족과의 관계, 부부간의 의사소통문제, 성적만족도를 중심으로 결혼만족도를 예측할 수 있는 요인들에 관하여 조사하였다.
본 연구에서 사용한 측정도구들로서, 결혼만족도를 측정하기 위해서 Schumm(1990)이 개발한 캔사스 결혼만족 측정도구(Kansas Marital Satisfaction)를 사용하였다. 결혼생활의 결정권을 측정하기 위하여 Blood와 Wolfe(1960)가 개발한 결정권 색인(Decision Power Index), 가사분업을 측정하기 위하여 Blood와 Wolfe(1960)가 개발한 업무참가 색인(Task Participation Index)을 사용하였다. 또한 부부간의 의사소통의 개념은 deTurck과 Miller(1986)가 개발한 부부의 이해 측정도구(Conjugal Understanding Measure)를, 성적 만족의 개념을 측정하기 위하여 Hudson의 성적 만족의 색인(Index of Sexual Satisfaction)을 사용하였다. 마지막으로, 자신의 가족과의 관계와 시댁 식구와의 관계를 측정하는 도구는 아직 개발되지 않은 상태임으로, 연구자가 만들어 사용하였다.
표집방법으로는 비모수 표집방법 중 편의표집과 눈덩이 표집방법을 사용하였으며, 응답자는 부인 370명으로 구성되었다. 자료분석을 위하여 기술통계와 중다회귀분석을 사용하였다. 연구의 결과에 의하면, 부인들의 결혼만족도에 영향을 미치는 변인들로는 성적만족도, 의사소통, 시댁식구와의 관계, 그리고 자신의 가족과의 관계가 중요한 변인들이었으며, 이 4가지 변인들이 부인들의 결혼만족도의 51.5%를 설명하였다. 특히, 응답자가 기독교를 가지고 있는 부인들임에도 불구하고 성만족도와 의사소통의 변수가 결혼만족도의 45.5%를 설명하여 준다는 점이 특이한 것으로 보인다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate factors influencing marital satisfaction among Christian wives in South Korea. It was hypothesized that marital satisfaction among Christian wives could be predicted from income, educational level, spouse's occupation, the number of years of marriage, decision making, division of household tasks, relationship with current family, relationship with spouse’s family, communication problems, and sexual satisfaction.
The study used a number of existing measures. These included Index of Sexual Satisfaction, Task Participation Index, Decision Power Index, Conjugal Understanding Measure, and the Kansas Marital Satisfaction. Additionally, other more general demographic information was gathered including respondent's income, religion, educational background, the number of years of marriage, husband's occupation, relationship with spouse's family and relationship with current family. The present study collected data from Christian wives in South Korea. Using snowball, purposeful and convenient sampling methods, a sample of 370 Christian wives completed survey.
Multiple regression analyses indicated that sexual satisfaction, conjugal communication, relationship with spouse’s family and relationship with current family were significantly associated with marital satisfaction among the Christian wives, explaining 50.4% of the variance in the marital satisfaction score. Sexual satisfaction was the best predictor of marital satisfaction and accounted for 36.4% of the variance in marital satisfaction among Christian wives. The second most important predictor of marital satisfaction among the Christian wives was conjugal communication and explained 8.9% of variance. The relationship with spouse's family was the third significant variable to account for the variance of marital satisfaction among the Christian wives and explained 4.1% of the variance. As the least predictor, the relationship with current family accounted for 1.1% of the variance of the marital satisfaction among the Christian wives.
The findings of the present study suggest several implications for future research. One principal finding was the important role of sexual satisfaction in marital satisfaction among the Christian wives. Future studies might explore this factor further. This study found the importance of conjugal communication in marital satisfaction among the Christian wives. This result suggests the importance of enhancing couples' skills in direct negotiation and decision making. Therefore, Christian couples need to learn conjugal communication skills to enhance their marital relationships with spouses. The findings of the study revealed the significance of relationship with spouse's and wives' family in the degree of marital satisfaction.
