이 연구는 초등학교 5, 6학년 학생들을 대상으로 학생들의 공감과 도덕판단력, 새로운 환경
패러다임의 특성을 알아보고, 공감 및 도덕판단력과 새로운 환경 패러다임 간의 관계에 대하
여 살펴보았다. 연구 결과 학생들의 공감능력은 연령에 따라 유의미한 차이는 없었지만, 정서
공감과 사회기술 요소를 중심으로 여학생의 공감이 남학생보다 유의미하게 높은 것으로 나타
났다. 도덕판단력과 새로운 환경 패러다임은 학생들의 연령과 성별에 따라 유의미한 차이가
나타나지 않았다. 공감의 하위 요소 가운데 정서공감, 인지공감과 도덕판단력 4단계, P(%)점수
는 새로운 환경 패러다임과 유의미한 정적 상관관계가 나타났으며 도덕판단력 1단계는 유의미
한 부적 상관관계가 나타나, 공감능력과 도덕판단수준이 높을수록 새로운 환경 패러다임이 강
함을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 정서공감과 인지공감, 도덕판단력 1단계와 4단계 중 새로운 환경
패러다임을 유의미하게 설명하는 요인은 인지공감, 도덕판단력 1단계와 4단계인 것으로 나타
났다. 초등학생의 환경세계관은 이후 청소년과 성인의 환경세계관 형성에 영향을 미치지만 아
직 확고하지 않은 상태로, 초등학생은 새로운 환경 패러다임의 형성에 있어 매우 중요한 시기
이다. 따라서 공감과 도덕판단력을 향상시키는 교육을 통해 초등학생의 새로운 환경 패러다임
을 촉진하고 강화할 필요가 있다.

영어 초록

This study looked into the characteristics of the empathy, moral reasoning, and
the new environmental paradigm of fifth and sixth grades elementary school
students, and considered a relationship between empathy, moral reasoning, and new
environmental paradigm. As a result, the empathy of students showed no
significant difference in accordance with age; however, the empathy of girl students
was discovered to be significantly higher than that of boy students focusing on
emotional empathy and a social skills elements. Meanwhile there was no significant
difference according to the age and sex of students. From among the sub-factors of
empathy, emotional empathy and cognitive empathy, four stages of moral reasoning
and P(%) score had a significant positive correlation with new environmental
paradigm whereas the first stage of moral judgments exhibited a significant
negative correlation with new environmental paradigm. This means that the higher
the empathy and moral reasoning level were, the stronger new environmental
paradigm were. Also, among emotional empathy, cognitive empathy, and the first
stage and fourth stage of moral reasoning, cognitive empathy and the first stage
and fourth stage of moral reasoning were discovered to be factors that explain the
new environmental paradigm of students significantly.
The new environmental paradigm of elementary school students have not been
firmly determined yet; thereby, it is very crucial in that this fact affects the creation
of the new environmental paradigm of teenagers and adults afterward. Accordingly,
it is necessary to promote and reinforce the new environmental paradigm of
elementary school students through education which may enhance empathy and
moral reasoning.
