본문내용
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Hyde is a gothic novel that captures the moment of British society upheaval during the end of the 19th century. Fin-de-siècle is a French term for ‘end of the century’. There was a rapid transition in the late Victorian era due to developments in technology. Stevenson depicts of this tilting within British society and decadence of former values of the Victorian era by introducing these new sensations into his novel, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Hyde. This novel reflects the decay of former British society by handling themes such as release of evil, drug usage, defying natural law, and the duality within human nature.
