본문내용
The number of students going abroad for study has been on a rapid increase since the early 2000s in Korea. According to recent statistics published by the Korea Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the combined number of primary, middle, and high school students has jumped from 8,148 in 2001 to 20,400 in 2005, with primary schoolers showing the most significant leap from 2,107 to 8148. What on earth makes students leave Korea for other countries? Is it just a natural result of globalization sweeping across the world, or are there some other specific reasons? Globalization, to be sure, is one of the major causes, but it falls short of providing a complete explanation for this strange ‘studying abroad’ frenzy gripping Korean students. However, three other reasons found uniquely in Korean society provide perfect supplements to it.
