- 우리는 이 소설에서 거의 대부분의 목소리를 차지하고 있는 한 사람을 주목할 수 있는데, 바로 “엄마”인 듯한 사람이다. 그녀가 말하는 대부분의 내용이 여자로서 어떻게 살림을 해야 하고, 행동은 어떻게 해야 하는지 등에 대한 것들이다. 그녀가 “you”라고 지칭하는 사람은 그녀의 딸로 읽힌다.
