Essay 1
Virginia Woolf, the author of “The Death of the Moth”, saw the moth “fluttering from side to side of his square of the window-pane” (Robert, 193). She felt both pity and amazement for it. When the moth danced and zig-zagged (Robert, 194), she thought it shows us real nature of life (Robert, 194). When the moth, exhausted by its dance, slipped from the wooden ledge and fell, it fluttered its wings (Robert, 195). Finally, even though the moth tried to struggle against death, it failed and died. Through this scene, Virginia Woolf felt that death is stronger than any other living species in the world. In other words, the author came to think about “life and death” through the moth.
