When readers first see this book, they just consider the book as a guideline for companies that want to successful. In addition, the title Good to Great initially seems to be exaggerated for its readers. However, I realize that my initial perceptions about the book are incorrect. The title of the first chapter “Good is the Enemy of Great” attracts me because the title suggests that individuals often settle for less than what they can accomplish.
The author, Jim Collins, is curious about the difference between good and great companies. This is why he tries to focus on the differences rather than the similarities between good and great companies. He wants to know why some companies which are great companies make the leaps that others do not. During his research for the great companies, he notices that great companies act quite different from what people usually anticipate for the great companies’ actions. That is, to know the requirements for great companies is the key factor to understand the great companies well.
