As I`ve come to understand it, this "Blanche" charachter fabricates for herself a world of delusion and imposes this fantasy upon her surrounding reality, in an effort to ease her uneasy lot in life.
All these variable come into their own play, and muddle the clarity of thought as to Blanche`s actual or merely apparent insanity. It is because of this that I must turn to a concrete glimpse of Blanche`s splintered soul, from the one remaining bastion of public insight into contemporary society and literature.
I conclude that Blanche was indeed insane from the way Marge swung across the set of Springfield`s production of Streetcar. Hoisted up by cables, she was twirled about the stage as multicolored lights shone forth their crazy luminescence, casting warped shadows upon Marge`s twisting, terrified face. If this clue were not enough, an ever-astute Lisa Simpson noted to her confused brother that the scene "represents Blanche`s descent into madness."
