1. What concepts in the chapter are illustrated in this case? Who are the stakeholders in this case?In this Google case, the concept of privacy is illustrated and concept of ethical analysis. In this case, the fact is Google wants to digitize medical records online. With digitizing medical records, stakeholders take advantage from the system, but there are some of side effects. That’s the conflict of dilemma. One of the options is accepting to digitize medical records system and the other is prohibiting it. The potential consequences could be Google pushing the government and get the permission to make the system.
The stakeholders are divided into three parts. First one is Google. By providing this service, Google can raise money from advertisements or the other stakeholders. Second one is related with health care, e.g doctor, nurse and pharmacist. They can save their money by using the system. What they have to do is just clicking and checking the patient’s medical record. They don’t need to request the information from other hospital that the patient’s information has. Third part is patient. Without the digitizing medical records system, every time they move from one hospital to other hospital, they need to be checked up the symptom. The patient can save the money.
2. What are the problems with America’s current medical recordkeeping system? How would electronic medical records alleviate these problems?
