This study is an analysis of skill domains in elementary social study textbook and guidebook forteacher. Based on vital skills in social studies by NCSS, contents of the skill domains in social study were
analyzed by using each textbook and grade, academic term, contents of learning the skills, skills in the
social studies, and analytical framework including category and illustration numbers. Results are described
as follows. Firstly, skill domains are needed to be broken down into each category and each skill needs
to be organized and suggested as an independent learning subject to learn one single skill intensively in a
learning skill section. Secondly, the number of sections for learning skills needs to increase and an
advanced course need to be provided so that students can learn one single skill throughout for every
grades to progressively learn the skills of social studies. Thirdly, specific methods to search data need to
be suggested for students to learn how to find data by themselves for smooth operation of research
learning. Fourthly, social studies need to put considerable effort in improvement of 'reading skill' which is
a very basic skill such as a vocabulary ability and ability to understand. In order to improve learning in
social studies skills area, it is necessary to intensively learn one skill in skill learning corner. The skill
area should be presented in detail, and the number of skill learning corners should be increased to
repeatedly present the learning progresses at various grade levels.
