상업디자인과 학생들이 상업디자인과를 지원한 동기는 대체적으로 상업디자인과가 전망이 좋고, 자신의 적성에 맞기 때문에 지원한 것으로 조사되었고, 대체적으로 장래를 대비하여 컴퓨터 그래픽스의 배울 필요성을 느끼고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 컴퓨터 그래픽스에 관한 관심도는 대체로 중상이며, 컴퓨터 그래픽스를 배우기 전보다 배운 후에 더욱 관심이 고조된 것으로 조사되었다.
컴퓨터 그래픽스를 가르치는 교사들의 전공은 교사의 3분의 2가 순수미술과 미술교육을 전공하였으며, 교사들의 대부분은 컴퓨터 그래픽스 관련 산업체에 근무한 경험이 없는 것으로 나타났다.
컴퓨터 그래픽스 교육과정에 전반에 관한 교사들의 만족도는 부정적으로 나타났고, 그 주된 원인으로 교사를 위한 연수 및 연구 기회의 부족, 체계적으로 제시되지 못한 교육방법 및 커리큘럼으로 지적되었다.
상업디자인과 학생들의 진로는 거의 대부분이 졸업후 진학하는 것으로 조사되었는데, 현재 실업계 고등학교 단계에서의 상업디자인 교육은 전문 직업인의 양성보다는 전문대나 대학 등 상위학교 진학을 준비하는 역할을 담당하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
따라서 교육과정 운영에 있어, 국가적 차원에서 시대적 요구에 따른 교육과정 방향이 설정되어야 하며 교육계, 산업체 등의 전문가의 조언을 통한 교육과정이 개발되어야한다.

영어 초록

In this treatise this writer aimed to identify accurate status on students, teachers, educational course, educational facility and future directions for computer graphics through research on students of commercial design department of vocational high schools and teachers in charge of computer graphics and also intended to provide basic data for deciding direction of computer graphics education in future.
To accomplish above-mentioned aim of the research this writer first, studied concept of computer graphics and field of application through available literature and also examined characteristic of its education. Second with a focus on commercial design department of vocational high school investigated goals and content of computer graphics education With a focus on commercial design department which is center of computer graphics education status of schools, students and their future courses were investigated. Fourth, this writer investigated problems in computer graphics education for commercial design department through research.
Results of survey by means of questionnaires are as follows:
1. Status of students
According to survey students of commercial design department were motivated to apply for the said department by good future prospect and consideration of their aptitude and they had affirmative attitude on the need of learning computer graphics for preparation of the future.
2. Status of teachers
About 2/3 of teachers teaching computer graphics majored either in fine arts or fine arts education and majority of them were found as having no previous experience of working in computer graphics related industry.
3. Status of curricula
Educational goal of computer graphics education was to teach students how to operate and use computer graphics. In terms of curricula it was more or less confined to 2 dimensional graphics.
4. Status of texts and facilities
Current texts were seldom used either by students or teachers thus there seemed to be urgent need for revision of texts. In terms of equipments majority of students of commercial design department were experiencing lack of computer availability by 30-50% and this was found as a major cause of complaint on the part of teachers regarding educational equipment.
5. Future direction
According to survey majority of students of commercial design department desired to continue their study in advanced school after graduation.
