There is this good-looking and high-class man who is wealthy and intelligent, but he is brusque and arrogant. So, I do not like him, but one day, I find that he is quite gentle and charming. Furthermore, he confesses his love to me. These days, this is a typical romance routine of TV dramas and movies, but I would like to say that the root of this routine is the novel “Pride and Prejudice” written by Jane Austen in 1797 and published in 1813. This romantic story is that the gentleman who has ‘pride’ a lot and the lady who has ‘prejudice’ against this gentleman, get rid of ‘his pride’ and ‘her prejudice’ and fall in love.

The filming of Jane Austen’s novel, “Pride and Prejudice” signifies the elegant manners and harmonious life of the pastoral world and captures the beauty of the British countryside, its glorious, stately manors and castles, and the fashions of the nineteenth-century. Both the BBC drama (1995) and the Joe Wright’s movie (2005) allow audiences to enter a world of reactionary escapism which leads them to a simpler time and nostalgia for an older English countryside.
