Is Microraptor from the Cretaceous of Liaoning China the missing link between dinosaurs and birds?

The origin of flight and modern birds has been a huge controversy in science. There are many assumptions about from which ancestors birds had evolved from, but one of the strongest hypotheses is that birds have evolved from dinosaurs. This idea was first proposed in 1860s, when Archaeopteryx fossil was discovered in Germany. Archaeopteryx, which lived during the Late Jurassic period, possessed feathered wings of a bird, but also had characteristics of a reptile such as its teeth and long bony tail. However, not many people were convinced by the idea that the ancestors of birds were dinosaurs until the paleontologist John Ostrom made an extraordinary discovery in Montana in 1964. In Montana, he discovered a new kind of dinosaur and named it as “Deinonychus”.
