한국어 초록

바야흐로 ‘스토리텔링’의 시대이다. 오늘날 스토리텔링의 활용 범위는 언어라는 표현수단과 책이라는 보존 형태에 국한되지 않는다. 영화, 드라마, 애니메이션, 게임 등 엔터테인먼트 콘텐츠는 물론이고, B.I(Brand Identity), 광고, 마케팅, 갤러리, 테마파크에 이르기까지 다양한 영역에서 활용되고 있다. IT 혁명을 통해 탄생한 정보의 홍수는 인간 두뇌의 처리 능력을 넘어서고 있다. 때문에 가치중립적이고 인지주의적인 정보 전달보다 감성적이면서도 구성주의적인 전달 방식을 선호하게 된다. 이에 따라서 사회 각 분야에서 디지털 패러다임에 맞는 스토리텔링의 수요가 급증하고 있다.
스토리텔링에 대한 광범위한 요구에도 불구하고, 이에 대한 국내의 학문적 연구 성과는 미미한 편이다. 2003년 국내에서 처음으로 디지털 스토리텔링과 관련된 연구서가 발간된 이래 꾸준히 관련 연구서가 발간되고 있기는 하다. 그러나 대부분 문학의 서사 이론을 그대로 답습한 정통 서사학파적(the traditionalist school) 입장을 고수한다는 점, 뉴미디어에 대한 이해가 부족한 상태에서 이론을 전개한다는 점, 특정 장르에 한정된 이론으로 디지털 스토리텔링 전반을 아우르지 못한다는 점, 무엇보다도 연구 성과가 축적되지 못하고 학문의 통합적 체계화가 이뤄지지 못했다는 점 등이 한계로 지적된다.

영어 초록

This study will examine the property of digital storytelling. Today, world is overflowing digital contents. They contain non-linear, divergent, interactive forms of narratives as well as traditional forms of narratives. Of coure, printed word, spoken world and visual word are co-exist in digital contents. But digital storytelling is more than just script written on papers. It can expand the storytelling notion and experience.
Digital storytelling covers range from development to post- production of digital contents. As a concept, digital storytelling can make a difference and can be a practical tools adapted to creating contents in new media. It focuses on creative medium like computer-based games, films, animations, theme park, and new type of advertisement. So we have to widely recognize the digital storytelling for new creative technology. We can compare digital storytelling to the plans and drawing for the architectural planning.
As printing technology discovers description and flashback, digital technology establishes its own value and order. Janet Murray suggests digital paradigm features procedural, interactive, spacial and encyclopedic characteristics. They can be applied on digital storytelling. Digital storytelling is used by collective intelligence, flow multiple media. In this case, participatory culture and spacial story is important like oral literature. It orient rhyzome system like window system contrasted with passive tree system.
In creating and criticizing digital contents, to understand popular culture and convergence culture is essential. Popularity is an alternative source of creative and circulative power instead of fewer critics of printing ages.
Story and information had been regarded as opposing values. But in digital storytelling, entertainment storytelling and information storytelling are embodied convergenistically. Specific case such as faction(fict+faction), edutainment(education+entertainment) and reality show(reality+show) are the phenomenon of convergence in digital contents. Digital storytelling frequently crosses the borders of various medium.
Digital Storytelling are now new creative technology. I'll also discuss the public significance of digital storytelling focusing on industrial and educational status. Through this, we can discuss the digital storytelling perspectives in korea.
