Introduction to Constructivism
Constructivism basically focuses on observation about how people learn. People build their own understanding and knowledge, through experiencing things and reflecting on those experiences. When we come across something new, we have to bring it together with our previous thoughts, knowledge and experience. Perhaps we may change what we believe, or may throw away the new information as irrelevant. Constructivism assumes people as active creators and learners who make new knowledge using their previous knowledge and new experience. In the classroom, the constructivism can be utilized as lots of different teaching practices. Generally, constructivism motivates and encourages students to use their ability to create and rebuild their knowledge. Using constructivism, teachers promote students to continually evaluate how the activity is helping them obtain understanding.
