My experience, thoughts and feeling about math are directly related to my thoughts and feelings about the public school system. I have always loved school and have been a good student. Throughout Elementary school I was in an advanced progress program for “gifted” students. It was there that I able to learn at whatever pace I was ready to learn and I excelled. When I reached Middle school I was in a Math book called Integrated Math 1. I was in the 6th grade and that level of math in Seattle Public Schools is given to High School Freshman. I got an “A” in that class and went on to Integrated Math two in the 7th grade. It was during that time that I began to have problems at home and began to act out, puberty. I made it through that year with lower grades due to many, many absences. But I got by. When 8th grade started I was placed into integrated Math three. The teacher of that class, Mr. Pounder, was not understanding about my home situation
