Abstract

Air-conditioning systems were invented in 1970s and designed with little attention to energy conservation. But, the escalating energy costs made the engineers focus on the efficiency of operation. So, it is important to know about the principle of the refrigeration system underlying HVAC, for the design of energy-efficient systems.
In this experiment, we are going to understand the basic theory of the air conditioning system, and the single stage compression cycle. Also, we will calculate the performance of the refrigeration systems (COP) from the experimental data. Lastly, we will study the characteristics of general importance for refrigerants. As the effect of refrigerants, the atmospheric ozone and global warming problem occurs. So, we have focused on the refrigerants widely used in the HVAC field.

In this experiment, we are focusing on understanding the HVAC system and vapor compression cycle system through the experimental accomplishment.
