1. Objective
1) Learn about thermal conduction
2) Express thermal conductivity as function of temperature and apply it to Fourier’s equation.
3) Measure thermal conductivity using a simple equipment

2. Theory
1) Heat flow
The British physicist Joule proved that heat is one form of energy, and the discovery of atoms has confirmed that heat is the energy of particles composing an object. Heat transfer occurs because particles transmit kinetic energy by vibrating and moving to surrounding particles. Types of heat transfer are conduction, convection, and radiation.

➀ Conduction
Conduction is a phenomenon where thermal energy is continuously transmitted from high to low temperatures without movement of materials. It occurs mainly inside solids, and the rate of conductivity varies greatly depending on the type of material, so it is expressed by a thermal conductivity.
