The use of English is inevitable. When people travel abroad, use the internet, or want to get a better education, English is almost always a necessity. One third of the world’s population uses English in some way. Fishman emphasizes ‘Never before in human history has one language been spoken so widely and by so many’ (1998). Indeed, English is useful for our lives. Walker comments that English gives more opportunities, better jobs, communication of global issues such as climate change, peace, disaster, poverty, and hunger (2009).
