People call the era we live in ‘the postmodern time.’ We have heard a lot of it. But what does it mean?
According to Wikipedia, Postmodernism is a philosophical movement evolved in reaction to modernism, the tendency in contemporary culture to accept only objective truth and to be inherently suspicious towards a global cultural narrative or meta-narrative. It puts an emphasis on the role of language, power relations, and motivations in the formation of ideas and beliefs. In particular, it tackles the use of sharp classifications such as male versus female, straight versus gay, white versus black, and imperial versus colonial; it holds realities to be plural and relative, and to be dependent on which the interested parties are and of what their interests consist. It believes that there is no absolute truth, meaning the truth is relative, and that the way in which different people perceive the world is subjective. It has influenced various parts of our lives whether we noticed or not.
