-The way in which the airstream used for a speech sound is modified by the primary and secondary articulators.

1.Three types of the modification of the airstream
2.Degree of stricture
①Obstruents cause arise in air pressure inside the vocal tract. These involves stops, fricatives.
②Sonorants don`t cause air pressure rise.

3.Stops
-Sounds produced when the vocal tract is completely blocked for a time.
eg) /p,b,t,d,k,g/ (These are all obstruents)
Nasal sounds such as /m,n,앵마/ are also stops in that the place and manner of articulation are same with the other sounds of stops. But /m,n,앵마/ are sonorants. Because the airstream goes through nasal cavity.
